'I have chose to move on' - Yuvraj Singh announces worldwide, IPL retirement

Yuvraj Singh

The 37-year-old revealed that he was told by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he would get a farewell match if he fails to clear the "Yo-Yo" fitness test but he ended yo passing the test and the farewell match never materialised.

Yuvraj will continue to play in domestic T20 leagues.

"After 25 years, I have chose to move on".

India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup way back in 2007 under the leadership of their then newly-appointed skipper MS Dhoni. The southpaw churned out the fastest T20I half-century that day off a mere 12 balls.

"It's been a love-hate relationship with the sport in retrospect". However, Yuvraj Singh also revealed that he was told that he cannot play for India again if he doesn't clear the Yo-Yo Test - the fitness test which is compulsory for the all the players to make the cut into the team.

"I want to play T20 cricket". Rohit, who captained Yuvraj in the recent IPL at the Mumbai Indians posted a cryptic tweet saying Yuvraj "deserved a better send off". Yuvraj Singh started his career from the Punjab Under-16s at the age of 13 years in the 1995-96 season against Jammu and Kashmir. For this year, or maybe next year, I don't know.

Yuvraj was also the man of the tournament in the 2011 World Cup, which India went on to win by beating Sri Lanka in the final. He said this shattered him and he needed some time to recover from the jolt and rediscover why he played cricket.

"I just want to have fun and enjoy time for myself".

His last appearance for India came in an ODI against West Indies in 2017. But he continued to be a huge favorite for teams in the Indian Premier League. The first all-rounder to take 15 wickets and score 300+ runs in a World Cup, Yuvraj also became the first player to score 50 runs and take 5 wickets in a World Cup game as he broke a barrage of records despite the presence of what would later be diagnosed as a cancerous tumour in his lungs.

"Cricket has given me everything and that's why I am standing here", he said.
