Huawei SA says local users unaffected by U.S. ban

A Huawei logo is seen at an exhibition during the World Intelligence Congress in Tianjin China

Over the next few days we'll probably see more companies distancing themselves from Huawei given the pressure that the USA government is bringing to U.S. companies and even to their allies. Two British carriers also said they would not offer Huawei phones to future 5G customers. Toshiba also said it had resumed some shipments to Huawei after temporarily suspending shipments to check whether they included US-made components. However, Huawei's chairman Ren Zhengfei has tried to quell some of this nationalist zeal surrounding the company's phones.

An analyst speaking to the Beeb said that he thought the withdrawal of Arm co-operation would be an "insurmountable" blow to Huawei's business if it was sustained in the longer term. He also revealed that he has himself bought iPhones for his family, when they are aboard. "It will not be bought by our clients anymore", Hamida Norhamida, a saleswoman of new and used phones in Manila's Greenhills shopping centre told Reuters, adding that she felt relieved to have sold off her stock of Huawei P30 Pro ahead of Google's Monday announcement.

Washington's restrictions affect products made fully or partially in the United States, where Panasonic manufactures some of the components it supplies to Huawei, the Japanese firm said.

On the same day, U.S. President Trump said he had signed an executive order enabling the U.S.to ban telecommunications network gear and services from "foreign adversaries".

Trump's order effectively bans U.S. companies from selling Huawei and affiliates the critical components that have helped it grow into the world's largest supplier of telecom networking equipment and second-biggest smartphone maker. Huawei has also said that it's been working on its own mobile operating system to replace Android, and the company already develops its own Kirin mobile processors.

Earlier on Wednesday, Japanese telcos KDDI Corp and SoftBank Corp's low-priced mobile brand Ymobile said they would delay the launch of Huawei P30 Lite smartphone which was due to go on sale on Friday.
