Donald Trump Engaged In "Cover-Up", Says US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Republican Joins Democrats' Louder Calls for Impeachment as Former White House Attorney Defies Subpoena

She and other congressional leaders met briefly with Trump just before his appearance before reporters to talk about a potential bipartisan infrastructure development plan, although a firm proposal for funding any such effort has yet to emerge.

"We've always said one thing will lead to another as we get information".

This comes after the House Speaker said "we believe the president of the United States is engaged in a cover up".

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler issued subpoenas Tuesday to Hope Hicks and Annie Donaldson, both former Trump White House employees, demanding they turn over documents he's seeking from their time working for the president's team.

"I don't do cover-ups", said Trump from the Rose Garden and called on Democrats to end their investigations into him, his finances and his administration. "We will not allow the president to block congressional subpoenas".

"I walked into the room, and I told Sen".

"We want to make sure that we're following all the legal processes, everything we've been given, to truly make the best decisions", said Rep. Lucy McBath of Georgia, a freshman on the Judiciary panel.

On Monday night, Ms. Pelosi told Democratic leaders that impeachment would take away from the party's legislative agenda and undercut ongoing investigations into the president by other congressional committees.

Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden that as long as House Democrats continued to investigate him, there would be no deal on infrastructure. McGahn's absence brought a new wave of House Democrats calling for Trump's impeachment.

The Committee had subpoenaed financial records and communications from the accountants pertaining to Mr. Trump, his businesses and charity, from 2011 to 2018.

Brexit: What happens next? Theresa May sets out 10-point compromise package
It will also will oblige the government to keep trade in goods with the European Union as frictionless as possible. The Labour Party and rebels within May's Conservative Party have said they plan to oppose it.

A rising number of Democratic lawmakers have begun to call for an impeachment inquiry - a sign of increasing frustration with their inability to obtain interviews with and information from Trump administration officials following the release of the special counsel's report.

Former White House Counsel Donald McGahn is a no-show at a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee, defying a subpoena for his testimony.

An attorney for the House Democrats, Douglas Neal Letter, said the committees have issued "a whole batch of subpoenas. having nothing to do with Trump or his family". Pelosi gave voice to the frustration of activists within the caucus, but pulled more support together for a go-it-slow approach from the meeting.

"Mr McGahn is a critical witness to numerous alleged instances of obstruction of justice and other misconduct described in the Mueller report", Mr Nadler said last month.

"It is simply not fathomable that a Constitution that grants Congress the power to remove a President for reasons including criminal behavior would deny Congress the power to investigate him for unlawful conduct-past or present-even without formally opening an impeachment inquiry", the judge wrote in his decision.

Many Democratic politicians have said the alleged orders from Mr Trump could amount to committing the crime of obstruction.

Pelosi previously said in early April that she would not consider ratifying the new trade agreement until Mexico reformed its labor laws. The list of Democrats openly calling for impeachment grew to lawmakers on May 22, according to a list compiled by The Hill.

"Our subpoenas are not optional".

Judge Mehta agreed with Congressional Democrats that House committees, including the ones now investigating the President, have broad discretion to pursue documents and witness statements that they feel are relevant to their inquiries - and that, in this case, includes subpoeaning Trump's accounting firm, Mazars, for his financial records.
