White House 'Directed' Ex-Counsel McGahn Not To Comply With Congressional Subpoena

CNN's Chris Cillizza published a fictional article about Trump refusing to leave office after a 2020 defeat

McConnell said Democrats are "grieving" the result.

Nadler subpoenaed the full, unredacted Mueller report and its underlying evidence from the Department of Justice. Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein subsequently concluded that Trump did not break the law.

If approved by the House, where the Democrats hold a solid majority, the contempt resolution would nearly certainly move to an unusual, and potentially protracted, multi-pronged court battle with the Trump administration.

"Bill Barr is following the law and what's his reward?"

LEMON: So, listen, this is all about getting that unredacted - the full unredacted Mueller report. "He's going to find out how and why this investigation started in the first place".

Both incidents are the latest episodes in an escalating fight between the Republican president and Democrats, who control the House of Representatives and are seeking documents and testimony relating to various investigations, ahead of the 2020 presidential election in which Trump is seeking a second four-year term.

Nadler continued to defend the Congress role in in holding the administration accountable. Republicans portrayed the majority as angry and lashing out at Barr after the special counsel did not find that Trump colluded with Russian Federation to swing the 2016 election. The Justice Department released the special counsel's report, with redactions, to Congress and the public on April 18.

NR Columnist Andy McCarthy, who has been one of the most credible writers on the entire Trump-Russia collusion hoax, took to Twitter to explain the Democrats real goal.

Trump Threatened Tariffs After Hearing of Chinese Reversal, Sources Say
Broadcom's Chinese revenue is 48% of its total and Apple gets almost one-fifth of its revenue from world's second largest economy. China said on Monday that a delegation was still preparing to go to the United States for trade talks, even as U.S.

"Now as I said yesterday, the president is nearly self-impeaching because he is everyday demonstrating more obstruction of justice and disrespect for Congress's legitimate role to subpoena". "Go fire Mueller, ' and saying, 'Have him removed based on conflict, '" Barr said.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone wrote in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee that McGahn does not have the legal right to comply with its subpoena for 36 types of documents - most relating to Mueller's almost two-year probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The contempt citation against Barr will need to be approved by the full House in order to proceed with enforcement, which will likely lead to a court battle.

Executive privilege is a right claimed by presidents to withhold information about internal executive branch deliberations from other branches of government.

And given the nature of the situation, the argument could very easily be made that the executive branch has already more than upheld its constitutional obligations to Congress' implied oversight powers by its repeated offers to allow leaders from both parties from both chambers to come and view the document, minus the secret grand jury information.

Nadler said that President Donald Trump had refused to hand over a single sheet of paper that has been requested, and the president has declared publicly that the executive branch will resist all subpoenas.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee May 1, 2019 in Washington, DC. The White House has rejected all efforts to probe Trump's business dealings or tax returns as well as the West Wing's security clearance procedure.

In response to the contempt proceedings, the White House invoked executive privilege over the contested portions of the Mueller report. Such a claim can shield some presidential material from disclosure.
