Ecuador spread lies about WikiLeaks founder - Julian Assange's lawyer

Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno

In a third letter dated 3 April 2019, the British embassy in Quito assures the country's foreign ministry in Spanish that Assange can not be subjected to "inhuman or degrading punishment", according the 1998 Human Rights Act under article three of the European convention on human rights, to which the United Kingdom adheres.

Two far-left German MPs, Heike Hansel and Sevim Dagdelen of Die Linke, and a Spanish Green member of the European Parliament, Ana Miranda, had been due to meet their "friend" Assange in London's Ecuadoran embassy later on Monday.

"The key issue at the moment is U.S. extradition, which we have warned about for many years", she added. Instead, the media has dutifully and unquestioningly reported Quito's claims that Assange himself used the embassy as a "center for spying".

Assange spent nearly seven years in the nation's London embassy where he sought asylum, until he was dragged out by police in dramatic scenes on Thursday.

Jennifer Robinson (centre) says Ecuador has made "outrageous allegations" against Julian Assange.

That stint ended on Thursday when Ecuador revoked his asylum and he was arrested by British police.

Democrats demand Trump tax returns by April 23
Mnuchin reiterated his concern that Democrats' demand could lead the federal tax agency to become a tool for political disputes. The back-and-forth is just the beginning of a fight that has always been anticipated to weave its way through the courts.

The Ecuadorean president also said that the health of Assange, 47, ... Guards told the newspaper that he would give TV interviews while only wearing underwear on his bottom half, and he would leave the bathroom so messy that guards took photos and complained about it to the embassy.

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno withdrew Assange's political asylum this week, opening the way for his seizure by British police.

"I'm a friend of Julian Assange".

The president also made references to Assange's apparently poor hygiene following allegations made by interior minister, Maria Paula Romo, which included Assange "putting faeces on the walls".

The Australian, who appeared much older when he emerged from the embassy than when before he sought refuge there in August 2012, is in custody at Belmarsh Prison in southeast London awaiting sentencing in Britain for skipping bail to avoid being sent to Sweden as part of an investigation of a rape allegation.

The Wikileaks founder is now expected to fight extradition to the United States over an allegation that he conspired with former army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to break into a classified government computer. Moreno said he "mistreated our officials in the Ecuadoran embassy in London" and that his "improper hygienic behavior" affected the climate at the diplomatic outpost.
