Guaido stripped of immunity from arrest

On Monday, the Venezuelan Supreme Tribunal of Justice called on the Constituent Assembly to strip opposition leader Juan Guaido of parliamentary immunity.

U.S. authorities have not approached the Mexican government with a proposal that Mexico could grant asylum to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said.

Venezuelan Constituent Assembly has approved continuation of proceedings against the country's opposition leader and self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaidó.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry said in January that it still recognized Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.

The Constituent Assembly's decree is necessary for the Supreme Court to move ahead with a trial of Mr. Guaido because as a legislator he has parliamentary immunity that makes it more hard for him to be tried than the average citizen.

"The regime believes that by attacking me, they will stop us", Mr Guaido told supporters outside his house on Tuesday night.

The Constituent Assembly's president, Diosdado Cabello, announced on Tuesday lawmakers had unanimously authorized the Supreme Court to prosecute Guaido, also leaving him liable to be charged for breaching a January 29 government ban on leaving the country.

When American "humanitarian convoys" were attempted to be sent through several states, they were meant to provoke a large-scale civil war and henceforth carry out an armed intervention in that state. "This is not even persecution - this is inquisition", said Gauido, who recognizes neither the court nor the Constituent Assembly.

Guaido, the leader of Venezuela's National Assembly, was charged with violating a travel ban imposed on him for visiting Colombia.

Maduro blames Washington for trying to install a puppet government to seize Venezuela's vast oil reserves.

Mr Guaido declared himself interim president of Venezuela in January, a move that has been back by several countries including the U.S. and UK. Officials jailed his chief of staff, Roberto Marrero, accused of involvement in a "terrorist" scheme to overthrow the government, and barred Guaido from holding public office for 15 years for allegedly hiding or falsifying data in his sworn statement of assets. "The usurpers don't want to test the resolution of the worldwide community", Guaido added.

The March touchdown near Caracas of two Russian air force planes carrying some 100 Russian special forces and cyber-security personnel has raised worldwide concerns about Moscow's backing for Maduro.
