Uber Mistake Murder: USC Student Died from 'Sharp Force Injuries' After Kidnapping

Think you know how to Uber and Lyft? Make sure you’re aware of these safety tips

Friends and family of the University of SC student killed Friday after getting in a auto - apparently thinking it was her Uber - gathered to remember her life Sunday night. Investigators say Samantha Josephson died from "multiple sharp force injuries". "We believe that she simply mistakenly got into this particular auto thinking it was an Uber ride".

"What we know now is that she had, in fact, summoned an Uber ride and was waiting for that Uber ride to come", Holbrook said.

Police are questioning a woman who was with Rowland in the Impala when he was stopped and arrested, but she is cooperating with investigators and there is no indication she was with him when Josephson got into the auto, according to CNN.

Authorities charged 24-year-old Nathaniel David Rowland with kidnapping and murder.

Josephson's killing and the mystery surrounding her death shocked the campus community she called home for four years and immediately spurred her friends, strangers and university officials to advocate for vigilance when using ride-hailing services. Everyone at Uber is devastated to hear about this unspeakable crime, and our hearts are with Samantha Josephson's family and loved ones. Josephson's boyfriend, Greg Corbishley, spoke about Josephson at the vigil. Turkey hunters found her body 14 hours later about 90 miles from where she was last seen.

The homicide investigation is ongoing, Holbrook said. "Shame on him", Marci Josephson said. A driver will know your name once you request a ride, so ask them who they are picking up rather than tell them who you are for added protection.

"Always check the license plates, and ask who they are, like their name, because it says it on there and then make sure you have the right vehicle", Brianna Jensen said.

"Our hearts are broken, they're broken". He was being held in the Richland County jail. "Unlike him, Samantha had love within her heart, and a goal in her life, the life he brutally ended". Her parents told People magazine that she was going to attend Drexel University in pursuit of a law degree, and they had put down a deposit shortly before her death.

Columbia Police reported that Josephson's blood was found in the vehicle, both in the cab and in the trunk.

"It is extremely hard to write this and post it but I love her with all my heart".

He wrote: "I will miss and love my baby girl for the rest of my life". "Times like these leave me searching for words of wisdom and comfort", school President Harris Pastides said.

The morning after Josephson left the bar, her co-workers at the Liberty Tap Room in Columbia grew concerned when she didn't report for her breakfast shift.

Josephson had numerous wounds to her head, neck, face, upper body, leg and foot, according to arrest warrants released Sunday by the State Law Enforcement Division.
