Donald Trump 'did not conspire with Russia', investigation reveals

Political leaders react to results of the Mueller report

That brought a hearty claim of vindication from Trump but set the stage for new rounds of political and legal fighting.

While Trump's base has always been suspicious of Mueller, the president's team believes independents and moderate Democrats who backed him in the last election but have since soured may return to the fold if convinced he was unfairly targeted.

"It's a shame that our country had to go through this". He said the President and his administration can now focus, having won an election "fair and square".

"The Special Counsel did not find any collusion and did not find any obstruction", Sanders said. That left it to the attorney general to decide. Various Trump officials met with the occasional Russian, or a notable Russian was in the room at a campaign-related event.

"It was a complete and total exoneration", Trump said.

"This is very problematic for any Democrat who's running for president in 2020 that was hoping they would face a weakened or beaten-down President Trump", former Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller said.

"It shouldn't surprise anyone that the president's own hand-picked Attorney General doesn't think he obstructed justice". Review the sequence of events leading to Mueller's appointment: then-FBI director James Comey tells the newly elected President Trump that an investigation into Russian interference is underway.

Mr Barr says that the evidence was not sufficient "to establish that the president committed an obstruction-of-justice offence".

"The special counsel did not (...) draw a conclusion - one way or the other - as to whether the examined conduct constituted obstruction", Barr's letter stated.

Apple said it was producing a variety of original content for the service, though it didn't announced pricing or a release date. Apple took a bite out of Monday's news cycle by at last announcing a timetable for its much-anticipated streaming service.

Barr also concluded that the special counsel didn't provide enough evidence to substantiate that the president obstructed justice. "AG Barr and DAG Rosenstein further determined there was no obstruction".

Trump's former national security advisor Mike Flynn, his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen and his campaign chairman Paul Manafort are among the 34 individuals already indicted by Mueller but they will be the last, according to Barr.

"This is a gold star day for Donald Trump", said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley. "They have made up nonexistent allegations and baseless 'facts'". Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, implicated Trump in campaign finance violations when he pleaded guilty previous year.

But disproving or ruling out the possibility that someone committed a crime is the job of defense attorneys - not federal prosecutors or a special counsel.

On Sunday, Barr said Mueller's team had not found evidence of criminal conspiracy between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation in the 2016 election and had left unresolved the issue of whether Trump obstructed justice.

Still, Trump tweeted the opposite. And she has called for a "full examination" of a New York Times report accusing Trump's family of benefiting from "dubious tax schemes" in the 1990s.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on his 22-month Trump-Russia investigation is in the hands of the Justice Department, but Sunday's release of a four-page summary from the USA attorney general sparked renewed calls from Massachusetts' congressional delegation for the entire report - and the evidence behind it - to be made public. A full-throated attack on the investigation also will be the centerpiece of Trump campaign events, including rallies, they say.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler said Sunday the committee will call Attorney General William Barr to testify "in the near future". If Mueller's report is released in its entirety, we may learn new information about the Trump campaign's activity.

"I'm interested in moving on and trying to get this behind us, but people have to pay for what they've done for the past two years", said former Trump campaign aide David Bossie.
