Erdogan 'Strongly Condemns' New Zealand Mosque Killings

New Zealand attack shows growing hostility to Islam Erdoğan

The gunman shot dead 50 people and wounded more than 40 others in the terrorist rampage in Christchurch on Friday.

Multiple people were killed in mass shootings at two mosques full of worshippers attending Friday prayers on what the prime minister called "one of New Zealand's darkest days", as authorities detained four people and defused explosive devices in what appeared to be a carefully planned attack.

An emotional appeal by New Zealand's highest ranking Muslim police officer at a vigil for the Christchurch terror attack victims has gone viral.

"Anything of that nature that misrepresents this country, given that this was a non-New Zealand citizen, imperils the future and safety of the New Zealand people and our people overseas, and that is totally unfair", Peters said.

The Turkish and Israeli leaders have been trading barbs this week, with Netanyahu calling Erdogan a "dictator" and criticizing the imprisonment of scores of journalists in Turkey.

The suspected attacker, who ranted about Turkey in his manifesto, "targeted Turkey and me", Erdogan said. We are ready to resist and speak loudly about it in Canakkale...

"We have been here for 1,000 years and will be here until the apocalypse, God willing", Erdogan told a rally on Monday commemorating the 1915 Gallipoli campaign, when Ottoman soldiers defeated British-led forces including Australian and New Zealand troops trying to seize the peninsula, a gateway to Istanbul.

New Zealand authorities said on Sunday that 34 people remain in hospital, being treated for injuries that Doctor Greg Robertson described ranging from severe, complex gunshot wounds to "relatively superficial soft tissue injuries".
