Turbulance injures at least 25 on flight into NY

TURBULENCE Plane had to make emergency landing

A Turkish Airlines passenger jet traveling from Istanbul to NY hit severe turbulence Saturday as it approached its destination, with 30 people suffering injuries before it landed safely, officials said.

"There was like one or two seconds when it was subtle, but then it really started to pick up", passenger Amir Mehrbakhsh said.

An emergency was declared after the Boeing 777 landed, with a dozen ambulances waiting at Terminal 1, but the Fire Department of NY said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Broadcaster NBC said the plane - a Turkish Airlines Boeing 777 with 326 passengers and 21 crew on board - encountered the turbulence above the New England area.

A New York Fire Department spokesman said they dealt with "32 passengers with non-life threatening injuries at JFK".

The plane was carrying more than 300 passengers and crew members.

"Of course if you want to play with one touch you need movements with the other players". He needs more movement without the ball, not only when he has the ball at his feet.

Turkish Airlines Flight 1 hit the turbulence about 45 minutes before landing at JFK, Coleman said.

"Then seeing blood all over".

Others were said to have suffered bumps, bruises and cuts. One had a broken leg.

"We keep closely monitoring the health status of these passengers and our team", the airline said in a statement.

According to Storm Team A flight data, the plane flew directly in its approach to NY without making any deviations.

Earlier in the day, Newark Liberty International Airport temporarily closed its runways after a flight from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale made an emergency landing with smoke in its cargo hold.
