Chicago police looking for source of leaks in Smollett case

Celebrities, Like Queen Latifah, Who've Defended Jussie Smollett After Arrest

Smollett, 36, was accused of orchestrating his own attack, which was initially being deemed a potential hate crime by the Chicago Police Department.

One nurse was reportedly axed but claimed it was a misunderstanding, and said she never accessed Smollett's chart. Smollett has since been charged with staging the whole incident.

During the investigation, numerous pieces of information made their way into the media, and it's these leaks that have prompted the Chicago P.D.'s new investigation.

Edward Wodnicki, chief of detectives for CPD's Area Central, started the probe after disorderly conduct charges were filed against the actor in February after a almost month-long investigation that began when Smollett reported he had been attacked by two men in Streeterville early on January 29 who beat Smollett and shouted racial and homophobic slurs, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

According to CBS' reports, the nurse was sacked last week, and the nurse says that many other nurses and staffers who were fired, were probably for the same reason she was sacked.

Logano Holds On To Win at Vegas
Restarting 16th after the final caution, Busch worked his way forward, running the fastest lap times on the track. His rival Kyle Busch was looking for the sweep after winning the Xfinity and Truck race earlier in the weekend.

According to one nurse who was sacked following the incident, she never accessed Smollett's records, but merely scrolled past them as she was searching for another patient.

Smollett had gotten into hot water back on January 29, when he'd been rushed to Northwestern Hospital for treatment of wounds. No explanation was asked from her either. She added that other employees might have been mistakenly fired for the same reason. The men also put a rope around his neck and beat him.

He said the attack "was staged, the brothers had on gloves during the (air quotes) "staged attack" where they punched him a little, but as far as we can tell, the scratching and bruising that you saw on [Smollett's] face was most likely self-inflicted". At the time, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi denied the reports, calling ABC7's sources "uninformed and inaccurate". They also alleged he paid Ola and Abel Osundairo - who worked on Empire - to assist.

While the odds are seemingly stacked against Smollett, Latifah isn't the only star who has rallied their support for the actor.
