USA lawmakers launch sweeping probe of Trump

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort departs from U.S. District Court in Washington

Mr Trump's speech came at the same time Senator Bernie Sanders, who has embraced the label of "democratic socialist", spoke at a rally in NY, assailing Mr Trump as "the most unsafe president in modern American history".

"We believe in the American dream, not in the socialist nightmare", he told cheering supporters at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The president also has accused Mueller of having conflicts of interests for his close history with people such as former FBI Director James Comey.

Speaking of Mr Mueller's forthcoming report on the Russian Federation claims, he said: 'They leave people for a long time that shouldn't be there and all of a sudden they are trying to take you out with bulls***, OK?

Their requests hone in on a number of actions by the president that might support this conclusion: the dismissal of Trump's national security aide Michael Flynn, the firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, and Trump's alleged pressure on attorney general Jeff Sessions and several senior Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials seen as not loyal or hostile.

"Just for the media, I'm sure he's a lovely young man, just had a little temper tantrum", Trump said. "You have to persuade enough of the opposition party voters, the Trump voters", Nadler said.

In his CPAC speech, Trump invited to the stage University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) student Hayden Williams, who was assaulted by a non-student on UC Berkeley's campus while recruiting for the college's chapter of youth conservative organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA) on February 19.

"You put the wrong people in a couple of positions and they leave people for a long time that shouldn't be there, and all of a sudden, they're trying to take you out with bullshit, OK", Trump said.

One person the United States president didn't mention in his two-hour CPAC speech was his former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, who testified before several congressional committees this week where he called Trump a "con man" and "racist".

In addition to the White House, Nadler is also seeking information from Trump family members, like Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Jared Kushner; from former administration figures like former chief of staff Reince Priebus, former national security adviser Mike Flynn, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former spokeswoman Hope Hicks; and from Trump campaign figures like Brad Parscale and Corey Lewandowski.

The demands, made by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., cover communications between former White House counsel Donald McGahn and the president relating to Trump's fired national security adviser, Michel Flynn, as well as Flynn's statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about contacts with former Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., speaks after hearing some of the testimony from Michael Cohen before a closed door hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, in Washington.

The oversight panel has also given the White House until Monday to respond to document requests surrounding its clearance process, some of which panel Democrats have been seeking for months.

Trump praised the conservative movement, saying, "Our movement and our future in our country is unlimited".

It was his first public appearance since coming home empty-handed, and to criticism from all sides, after a nuclear-disarmament summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

He added that the relationship with the DPRK seemed to be "very, very strong". And frankly, a love for you, Mr. President. Williams was punched February 19 while on the campus of University of California, Berkeley.

Trump said earlier in the week that both sides will now continue to work together.

But he was in combative form, accusing Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell of being a drag on the economy and attacking the Green New Deal - a Democrat plan to fight climate change.
