Trump predicts 'AWESOME' future for N. Korea if Kim gives up nukes

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un projected optimism Wednesday as they opened high-stakes talks about curbing Pyongyang's pursuit of nuclear weapons, a problem that has bedeviled generations of leaders.

North Korea's state media says leader Kim Jong Un will follow his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump with an "official goodwill visit" to Vietnam that will continue through Saturday.

Kim was the first to arrive in Hanoi on Tuesday, completing the last part of his trip to the city by vehicle after covering the three-day, 3,000-km journey from Pyongyang to Dong Dang at the Vietnam-China border via train.

Ten minutes later they will meet one-on-one, probably with only their interpreters present, according to Yonhap. "No two people alone have broad enough shoulders to take on the weight of such challenging issues spread out over 70 years".

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (center, back) leaves after visiting the North Korean embassy in Hanoi on February 26, 2019, ahead of the second US-North Korean summit.

Following the meeting, Trump revealed that complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula was the end goal. "Peace between Washington and Pyongyang might contribute to an untimely withdrawal of USA forces from South Korea, encouraging unsafe misconceptions in Pyongyang", it said.

While the United States is demanding North Korea give up all of its nuclear and missile programs, the North wants to see the removal of a USA nuclear umbrella for South Korea.

"The success of the Vietnamese economy is due to its decision to normalize relations with the United States in 1995", Cuong said.

Trump scoffs at the doubters.

Dozens killed and injured in crash and fire at Cairo train station
And in August 2017, two passenger trains collided just outside the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, killing 43 people. Egyptians have long complained that successive governments have failed to enforce basic safety standards for the railways.

As the young, third-generation leader of one of the world's most impoverished and isolated nations, living under punishing sanctions, Kim will again stand as an equal to the president of the world's most powerful country.

Washington would ideally like Kim to dismantle a key nuclear facility at Yongbyon, allow in worldwide inspectors, or even hand over a list of all his nuclear assets - something the North Koreans have categorically refused to do. However, no concrete steps have been reportedly made in this direction by either party.

Heads of state from European kings and British royals to US and South American presidents have all chosen the Metropole as their Hanoi abode.

"I was so excited when we were told to stand in place for the arrival of the train", she said.

But before leaving for Vietnam, Trump said he was in no rush to get there.

A senior USA official says the American team has been seeking with the North Koreans a "shared understanding of what denuclearization is", while it is yet unclear whether Kim has even made the decision to fully denuclearize.

Where next? Perhaps the two leaders could agree to set up diplomatic offices in each other's capitals or move to declare an end to the Korean War. For that reason, he said, a formal peace declaration ending the Korean War ― which would supplant the armistice signed in 1953 ― would be ill-advised.

However, the value of nuclear facilities such as the Punggye-ri test site are unclear, and the West has no way of knowing what capabilities Kim retains.

The president already has broken away from the format of past talks with North Korea.
