Kelly has been officially charged with aggravated sexual abuse

R Kelly CHARGED with aggravated criminal sexual abuse | Daily Star

The embattled singer - dogged for decades by sexual abuse allegations involving underage women - has a court date scheduled for March 8 in Chicago, where he resides, the official told AFP.

There are four alleged victims, according to U.S. media who have seen court records, some of whom were aged 13 to 16 at the time of their assaults.

Police in Cook County, Illinois are looking to arrested R. Kelly and looking to charge him with sexual assault. The instances of alleged abuse took place between 1998 and 2010.

But last month's release of an explosive docu-series entitled "Surviving R. Kelly" once again brought accusations against him to the fore, while a #MuteRKelly movement aimed at preventing his music from airing has gained steam.

Another attorney, Michael Avenatti, has recently claimed that he provided the Cook County State Attorney's Office with a 45-minute videotape of R. Kelly engaging in sexual acts with a minor, who is said to be 14 years old.

Moments before the Friday charges were announced, Avenatti ominously tweeted: "It's over".

Kelly's arrest comes after a wave of women hit him with a variety of sexual misconduct and rape charges.

His attorney, Steven Greenberg has said his client denies any wrongdoing.

Each of the 10 counts against Kelly carries a possible prison term of three to seven years.

Kelly is one of the top-selling recording artists of all time.

Although it's still unclear when the sex tape was shot, Avenatti says he's certain that it falls within the statute of limitations.

Kelly married his protege Aaliyah in 1994, but after Vibe magazine questioned the couple's marriage certificate, it was learned that she was just 15.

The women, Latresa Scaff and Rochelle Washington, joined lawyer Gloria Allred at a New York City news conference to tell their story publicly for the first time.

Kelly was acquitted in 2008 after similar charges.

In July 2017, BuzzFeed published an explosive article outlining allegations that Kelly was holding a group of adult women against their will as part of what some of their parents said was a "cult".
