Companies Halt YouTube Ads Following Reports Of Commenter Pedophile Network

Epic Games YouTube

YouTube previously addressed the issue of predatory commentators in 2017, when it removed more than 150,000 videos, and said that, "Content that endangers children is abhorrent and unacceptable to us".

Nestle, McDonald's and other major companies have yanked their ads from YouTube over concerns that pedophiles allegedly used certain videos on the platform to trade information and bring attention to young girls in the comments section. "Comments beneath scores of videos appear to show pedophiles sharing timestamps for parts of the videos where exposed genitals can be seen, or when a child does the splits or lifts up their top to show their nipples". Time codes of crotch shots, soliciting exchanges of phone numbers, and promises to swap videos on other platforms (Snapchat, Whatsapp, Kik) are all being reported by YouTube users.

All Nestle companies in the US have paused advertising on YouTube, a spokeswoman for the company said Wednesday in an email.

However, YouTube told Bloomberg it had deleted accounts and disabled some comments to curb the activity. "There's more to be done, and we continue to work to improve and catch abuse more quickly", she added.

While YouTube has been trying to respond to the scandal, it appears another "ad-pocalypse" is about to hit content creators. After clicking on several bikini videos, YouTube's recommendation engine suggests that users watch videos with minors, Watson said.

YouTube has promised the companies involved that they will refund all ad spend that appeared on the videos and channels affected by this decision, which amounted to less than $8,000 in total.

TMZ: Grand jury to review Smollett case
Then, on Saturday, Guglielmi indicated that "trajectory of the investigation " had "shifted", according to the Associated Press . My own relative told me I was wasting my time, going state to state, knocking on doors for this guy with the amusing name.

Many of these videos were also accompanied by adverts placed by major brands such as Nestlé, Fortnite and Disney.

For example, if a user clicked on one of the videos, YouTube would recommend a similar one.

"We've also terminated over 400 channels for the comments they've left on videos, and reported illegal comments to law enforcement".

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) has also called upon YouTube to remove all pornography from its platform, and to create more proactive policies to combat sexual exploitation. Bloomberg cited sources who claimed Disney has followed suit, though the company did not immediately return a request for comment.

In the wake of all of these advertisers leaving YouTube, some content creators are anxious that there could be another "Adpocalypse" happening on the platform.
