Breach of contract: Filmmaker sues Amazon for $68m

Woody Allen sues Amazon for $68MILLION after it pulled the plug on his film

Woody Allen has hit Amazon Studios with a $68 million ($A95.73 million) lawsuit, claiming the company breached its contract by refusing to release his new movie A Rainy Day in NY and backing out of a four-film deal in the wake of his daughter's renewed molestation allegations.

The "Annie Hall" director filed the suit against the studio in Manhattan federal court Thursday, accusing it of reneging on the deal without cause.

Based on that conversation, Allen says that he finished A Rainy Day in NY and then started production on other projects because, as he claims to have understood, Amazon was simply pushing the film's release date. In the lawsuit, Allen claims that Amazon backed out of the agreement after his daughter, Dylan Farrow, renewed longstanding accusations that Allen molested her as a child.

Allen says the film was ready for release, but it was shelved by Amazon due to "renewed allegations" and Allen's "controversial comments".

But a few months later, as the #MeToo movement was taking off, Amazon Studio executives met with Allen's reps and discussed the "negative publicity and reputational harm" the company had received over its association with pervy producer Harvey Weinstein and its former head Roy Price, who'd just resigned over sexual harassment allegations - then asked to "push back" the A Rainy Day in NY release to 2019. Allen has consistently denied the allegations.

Call for early detection of cancer
Research has found that a diet high in processed food (especially processed meats) can raise the risk of colorectal cancer . In addition, they proposed that there be more support offered to children who have a parent battling cancer .

Allen's lawsuit claims that his representatives held meetings with Amazon officials in late 2017 and early 2018, where the company asked to delay the release of "A Rainy Day in New York" to 2019 amid fallout from the #MeToo campaign. Allen said executives had met with him in December 2017 to discuss the "negative publicity and reputational harm" stemming from those claims and the studio's association with Harvey Weinstein but agreed to proceed with the release of "Rainy Day".

He is seeking that $9 million along with minimum guarantees owed him for other films, totaling "in excess of $68,000,000", according to a complaint filed Thursday in federal court in NY and obtained by AFP.

Allen's suit was filed in the Southern District of NY.

In June 2018, Allen claims Patel terminated his film contract with Amazon, telling him, "Amazon does not intend to distribute" any of his films and giving no further reason, according to the lawsuit.

Yeah, I'm glad that Woody Allen is crying in a room somewhere filled with lawyers because Amazon canceled his deal, but also the deal shouldn't have existed in the first place.
