Cuban says Mavs want Kristaps Porzingis, Luka Doncic for long haul

Kristaps Porzingis

"If nothing was accomplished and he feels for his career he wants to go elsewhere to win, then that's his decision, honestly".

Three days after he was traded from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks, All-Star big man Kristaps Porzingis suggested in an Instagram post that his ex-team's fans should "stay woke".

The Mavs made the trade with the belief that Porzingis and 19-year-old rookie sensation Luka Doncic could develop together into the pillars of a perennial championship contender. Just another in a long line of Knicks fans' Phil Jackson laments.

Now after years of making bad deals and wasting millions on buyouts; the Knicks have part ways with Porzingis who had become exhausted of losing and witnessing what he believed to be the mistreatment of his teammate Enes Kanter. Milwaukee doesn't have the assets to compete with the other offers likely to be on the table for the Pelicans, but that shouldn't prevent them from making their best offer and seeing how the cards fall.

He's already dreaming of the ways to use Porzingis, a 7-foot-3 center/forward, and his prized rookie phenom Luka Doncic, together as a one-two punch in the National Basketball Association.

"It's not a concern I have", Cuban said to ESPN.

The press conference will also stream on the FOX Sports digital platforms.

Cuban interrupted a question for Porzingis on whether the player once considered the cornerstone of the NY franchise planned to sign long term with Dallas.

Porzingis, 23, has known Doncic since both played in Spain.

Dallas feels they have two superstars now.

Porzingis, who will become a restricted free agent this summer, was asked if he plans to re-sign with Dallas. The Knicks gets two future first-round picks.

Cuban made it clear the Mavericks want to make it hard on Porzingis to leave by helping build a roster around him and Doncic, the clear frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year.
