Apple iPhone revenue, once unflappable, is officially in retreat with 15% shortfall

Apple Reports Earnings Tomorrow. Here’s What to Expect

US dollar prices in markets outside America made iPhones more expensive in local currencies.

Now, CEO Tim Cook is grappling with his toughest challenge since replacing co-founder Steve Jobs 7 ½ years ago.

Sales of the Apple iPhone have fallen hitting the tech giant's financial performance.

"This is the defining moment for Cook", said Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives.

The results for the October-December period were slightly above analysts' expectations that were lowered after Cook's January 2 warning.

The past quarter's letdown intensified the focus on Apple's forecast for the opening three months of the year as investors try to get a better grasp on iPhone sales until the next models are released in autumn.

Not Filing Charges Against Patterson
A criminal complaint says Patterson told investigators he saw Jayme getting on a school bus near her home and chose to abduct her. Three months later, on January 10, Closs escaped her abductor's secluded home and approached a woman walking her dog for help.

Apple's iPhone revenue declined 15 percent year over year to $51.9 billion (£39.5 billion). Analysts surveyed by FactSet had been anticipating revenue of about $59 billion.

Those fears intensified after the firm said it would stop reporting the number of iPhones, iPads and Macs it sold each quarter.

Apple's board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.73 per share of the Company's common stock. As announced on Apple's last earnings call, the company did not report Q1 2019 unit sales for any of its products. However, most analysts remain anxious that the iPhone sales slump will continue into 2020.

Apple said sales for its fiscal second quarter would most likely be lower than Wall Street expected, a signal that it continues to face weak demand for its iPhone, especially in China, the world's biggest smartphone market, but investors focused on the company's growing services, which include Apple Music and its App Store.

Although a trade war started by President Donald Trump past year has hurt China and potentially caused some consumers there to boycott US products, many analysts believe the iPhone's malaise stems from other issues too.

"When you look at foreign currencies and then particularly those markets that weakened over the previous year those (iPhone price) increases were obviously more", Cook told Reuters. In the US, the owner of the company supplying screws was forced to put them in the back of his auto and deliver them to Apple just to try and keep pace with its orders.
