Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz confirms he's considering 2020 run

US President Donald Trump speaks in the Rose Garden of the White House

Over the weekend, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced he is "seriously considering" a run for president as an Independent in 2020.

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, seen here addressing an annual shareholders' meeting in Seattle on March 22, 2017, suggested he's considering running for USA president as an independent.

Bloomberg released a statement on Monday claiming that such an independent candidacy - which Schultz said on "60 Minutes" that he is considering - would split the anti-Trump vote.

Meanwhile, Trump saw this weekend's "60 Minutes" too, and on Monday prodded his would-be opponent on Twitter, going after his intelligence.

When asked if he is anxious about siphoning votes away from Democrats, Schultz told CBS, "I want to see the American people win". I only hope that Starbucks is still paying me their rent in Trump Tower!

"It's easy to get a national poll that makes an independent candidate look competitive, what's hard is turning that into electoral votes", said Robby Mook, Hillary Clinton's campaign manager in 2016.

Mr Schultz, 65, who built the coffee chain into a global franchise before stepping down as executive chairman last summer, said in a television interview due to be broadcast last night that President Trump was unfit for office, and that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans were properly serving the people.

Speaking to CNN's State of the Union on January 27, 2020 hopeful Julián Castro joined fellow Democrats in urging Schultz to "truly think about the negative impact" his joining the race might have. I want to see America win. "I want to spend our resources fighting for Democrats up and down the ballot, not fending off @HowardSchultz's independent bid".

Winter Storm Watch issued ahead of Monday’s snowstorm
A snowstorm will deliver 4-8 inches south of I-96 and 8-12 inches north of I-96 on Monday, with significant impacts to travel. While temperatures are dipping below zero, they have not beat the 1985 record for coldest temperature of 27 below zero.

Schultz is on tour for his book "From the Ground Up".

Some Democrats are already saying another billionaire businessman and political neophyte who thinks he can solve USA problems as an independent would hive off votes in favor of Trump's re-election. "Because I am not, in any way, in bed with a party".

With the 2020 election cycle now in full swing, Mr. Trump hasn't hesitated to offer his opinions on the emerging candidates. "But a billionaire buying his way out of the entire primary process does not strengthen democracy; it only makes it more likely that our democracy will be further strained under another four years of President Donald Trump".

"We are living at a most fragile time", he said. In reality, most Independents have strong leanings towards the ideologies of one party line or the other.

No third-party or independent candidate has won over 5 percent of the popular vote since Ross Perot in 1996.

Schultz said he sees "extremes" in both the Republican and Democratic political parties.

Some are already planning a boycott of Starbucks if Schultz enters the race. " Tina Podlodowski, chair of the Washington state Democratic Party, told The Times that Schultz is selfish and that his presidential goals aren't "about bringing people together". He condemned the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks last spring and calls it a "blow to our soul".
