More than $200K raised for Bahamian who catered doomed Fyre Festival

The actual event compared to the promotion

Maryann Rolle, a restaurant owner from the Bahamas, sat down for an interview for Netflix's Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and fought back tears as she recalled how she had to use $50,000 of her personal savings to feed stranded festivalgoers and pay her staff after Fyre Festival co-founder Billy McFarland and his team failed to pay her for her catering work.

The fundraiser was set up on January 14 with a goal of $123,000. At the same time, Netflix's Fyre was produced in partnership with the social media agency Jerry Media (a.k.a F-Jerry), who were involved in putting Fyre Festival on in the first place. Guests were greeted with disaster tents and after a deluge of rain, ended up with soaked beds and panicked at the lack of resources and infrastructure on the island. A lot of my workers didn't get paid.

The rapper has claimed no wrongdoing for his part in the disastrous festival that left Fyre employees and local Bahamians in massive debt.

"I had ten persons working directly with me, just preparing food all day and all night, 24 hours", Rolle said. I had to pay all those people.

He continued in another tweet on the same day, "I had an wonderful vision to create a festival like NO OTHER!"

In both documentaries rapper Ja Rule was focused on heavily as he founded the festival along with Billy McFarland, resulting in viewers firing spicy tweets at the popular artist for his role in the fiasco. "I love how ppl watch a doc and think they have all the answers..." he wrote.

A photo was uploaded to Rolle's Facebook page Monday showing her and her husband holding a sign with the words: "Thank you GoFundMe".

Arsenal revive top-four hopes with win over Chelsea
There was a setback for Arsenal in the second half when Bellerin was carried off on a stretcher with a knee injury and the defender could face a lengthy layoff.

A GoFundMe page set up on Rolle's behalf eight days ago says that Rolle was embarrassed to admit she didn't get paid. "To see nobody return to say, 'Let me take care of what she's done - we know she has done right.' I just leave it alone, because it really pains me when I have to talk about it".

Some of the shady tactics used in the lead-up to the Fyre Festival are now raising alarm bells on a smaller scale around another Instagram personality, 27-year-old Caroline Calloway, who announced to her 830,000 followers she was arranging "creativity workshops" around the USA for $165 per ticket which would include a homemade lunch, craftwork and "teaching".

Currently, there are over 3,900 donations totalling over $US129,000.

After her story hit headlines, Ja Rule, real name Jeffrey Atkins, shared a picture of Rolle on Instagram and issued an apology to her.

But this hasn't stopped people's enthusiasm. And after spending time with so many people who had such a negative impact on their lives from their experience on Fyre, it felt particularly wrong to us for him to be benefiting'.
