CNN reports that Chris Brown was arrested in Paris, France, and stands accused of "aggravated rape and drug violations".

Police are still investigating the case, the Paris prosecutor's office said.

In May previous year, a woman filed a lawsuit against Brown over claims that one of his friends repeatedly raped her at a drunken and drug-fuelled party at the singer´s Los Angeles home in 2017.

According to the French magazine Closer, the woman claims that she met Brown at Le Crystal, a nightclub close to the Champs-Élysées.

The AFP reports Brown was released without charge on Tuesday, though the investigation into the incident continues.

Brown was detained on Monday and remains in custody, according to authorities. She also accused one of his friends and his bodyguard of raping her after Brown's initial assault. One of Brown's bodyguards was among those detained, the source said.

Brown's publicists at Sony Music would not immediately comment.

In February 2009, he pleaded guilty to an assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna, for which he was sentenced to five years of probation and 1,400 hours of community service and counseling.

In 2016, he was arrested on suspicion of asault with a deadly weapon after a woman said he'd threatened her with a gun, but he was later released without charge.

"A total of three men were arrested at Brown's hotel".

Brown has face numerous legal battles in recent years.

Brown was arrested in July of 2018 after a concert in Florida on an outstanding warrant for felony battery.
