'Super blood wolf moon' eclipse to darken skies

The 'Super Blood Wolf Moon' will be visible over Orlando this weekend

Sunday's eclipse is a "super" blood moon because of the specific time in its orbit when it's closer to Earth.

The only total lunar eclipse for 2019 will take place on the night January 20 to January 21.

There will also be three supermoons in a row next year. In addition to the SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON, attendees can expect to see other celestial spectacles like nebulae (gaseous clouds of space dust) and star clusters.

"There will be a lunar eclipse over Nigeria on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019", the statement read.

There are two types of supermoon: a full moon supermoon and a new moon supermoon. A "wolf moon" is simply the folk name for a moon that happens in the month of January. During the lunar eclipse, the Moon is blocked from the sunlight since the Earth is in the way.

If you can not make it outside, the Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter will stream the full lunar eclipse on its YouTube channel using one of its telescopes. Totality ends at 12:44 a.m. with the partial eclipse finishing at 1:51 a.m. ET at which time the moon returns to its usual bright silvery self. "So that's what gives it the red color, and that's why people refer to it as a blood moon now".

The phenomenon will occur overnight into Monday and will be visible all over the UK.

Netflix announces biggest subscription increase in 12 years
One other important point to make in relation to Netflix: back in 2010, the video company, like Spotify, only had one paid tier. T-Mobile CEO John Legere says that despite the Netflix price hike, T-Mo's Netflix On Us feature won't change "for now".

On the night of January 20, beginning just minutes after 10:30 p.m. EST (7:30 p.m. PST), the moon will noticeably, progressively get darker. Rather, it takes on a reddish glow from refracted light as the heavenly bodies move into position - hence the "blood moon" moniker.

A lunar eclipse dips down behind the Wheeler Town Clock in Manitou Springs, Colo. early Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014.

While total lunar eclipses are not especially rare, the 2019 version takes place early enough in the evening that it can be enjoyed by US stargazers of all ages, said George Lomaga, a retired astronomy professor from Suffolk County Community College.

"The good thing about this is that you don't need any special equipment", he added. From Hawaii to ME, all 50 states will have a chance to see it - the most widely visible lunar eclipse in the United States since October 2014.

According to NASA, the eclipse will be "visible for its entirety in North and South America". A screening of the Hollywood hit First Man will also be playing in the IMAX theatre at 7 p.m. for an additional charge.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is within 90 percent of its closest possible distance to the Earth. We get to see that connection between the earth, sun and the moon in the sky in that moment, which is really neat. If you're going to look up at any point that evening, this is the time. It will be the first full moon of the year (a "wolf moon"). That's why it's called a wolf moon.
