How Government Shutdown Impact on Operations at Orlando International Airport?

Miami Airport

The agency confirmed that an unidentified passenger flying out of the world's busiest airport on January 2 somehow got a firearm past security agents prior to a flight to Tokyo's Narita International Airport, where he was met by Japanese authorities upon landing. There have been a number of staffing issues at airports including Miami International and George Bush International.

Officials ascribed the closure to staffing issues associated with the partial shutdown. TSA reported that 7.6 percent of their staff called out Monday.

The ongoing shutdown has stretched into its fourth week with no end in sight as President Donald Trump has remained steadfast in his demands for some $5.7 billion for a wall along the southern border.

David P. Pekoske, the TSA administrator, said last week that uniformed officers in the agency can expect a $500 bonus on Tuesday for their work during the holiday season.

Between U.S. Customs, TSA and the FAA, Tampa International has roughly 700 federal workers not receiving a paycheck because of the shutdown.

"The TSA Federal Security Director at IAD has decided, in collaboration with airport and airline leadership at IAD, to consolidate checkpoints today for more efficient screening operations". An estimated 51,000 TSA agents are among them.

"I don't have a good crystal ball".

The shutdown today: Government closure is now longest ever
Mr Trump, however, acknowledged that such a move would likely trigger a legal battle ending in the Supreme Court . In Miami, an entire airport terminal will be closed this weekend because of a shortage of security workers.

"I can't promise that won't happen", he said. "The longer it goes on, the harder it is on these employees". Officials say there have been no major delays, and no impact on national security. TSA concluded it didn't have enough screeners to keep the security checkpoint operating there amid a spike in unpaid workers not showing up for shifts.

It's presently unclear if the gun-carrying individual will be hit with any fines or other punishment, and what forms of disciplinary action will be taken against TSA agents present at the time of the passenger's questionable clearance.

The agency said the passenger was cooperative and "was met by Japanese authorities upon landing". "What I try to do is add another 30 minutes to my travel time just in case".

However, TSA denied that the government shutdown was to blame for the security breach at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The airport sent out a message on Twitter saying the Transportation and Security Administration checkpoint for Terminal B would be closed and passengers would be rerouted to other terminals.

Almost 104 million passengers passed through Atlanta in 2017.
