Woman in Vegetative State for Last 14 Years Gives Birth

Woman in vegetative state gives birth at Hacienda Healthcare in Phoenix

When she heard that the woman had given birth, the caregiver said she cried because she knew that the woman could not defend herself or identify her assailant. None of the employees at the hospital were aware that she was pregnant.

Tribal chairman Terry Rambler said he was "deeply shocked and horrified at the treatment of one of our members".

Hacienda HealthCare said it was fully co-operating with the authorities.

Micheaels' comments came hours after Phoenix police served a search warrant to obtain DNA samples from male employees at the facility, the New York Times reported.

She said: "I was scared". And in another case Arizona DHS investigated in 2013, a staffer was sacked for making inappropriate sexual comments about multiple patients.

The victim has been cared for at Hacienda since a near-drowning incident left her in a persistent vegetative state 14 years ago.

KPHO also spoke with a former Hacienda manager who said Timmons insisted that a 1988 incident of abuse of a different patient be covered up. We had consulted attorneys to determine whether it would be legal for our company to compel our employees to undergo DNA testing conducted through Hacienda or for Hacienda to conduct voluntary genetic testing of staffers.

Hacienda HealthCare CEO Bill Timmons resigned on Monday, with immediate effect, and his resignation was accepted unanimously by the board of directors.

Karina Cesena says that her trust with Arizona's Hacienda Healthcare has "definitely been broken".

Australia 'ready to care for Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun' as she flees family
She has said she wants to go to Australia to seek refuge there. "They wanted me to pray and to wear a veil, and I didn't want to". In her initial social media pleas, the Saudi teen said her family was powerful in Saudi society but she did not identify them.

Orman added that the facility will be cooperating with police and investigators in every way possible.

Govenor Doug Ducey's office has called the situation "deeply troubling".

A Phoenix police spokesman said that "the matter is now under investigation" but declined to give any further details of the case.

Hacienda describes itself as Arizona's "leading provider of specialised health care services for medically fragile and chronically ill infants, children, teens, and young adults as well as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities".

Sources claimed the patient required round-the-clock care and "many people" had access to her room.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS), which licenses the facility, said they were aware of the alleged incident and were "actively working with local law enforcement in their criminal investigation". But one complaint from December 2013 outlines an allegation that a staff member made inappropriate sexual comments about four patients two months earlier.

Meanwhile, a state lawmaker is considering legislation to protect patients living at long-term healthcare facilities from abuse. "And we knew not to mess with that temper because people got fired".

"I can't think of a legitimate reason not to call it what it is", he said.
