Spurs back up to second after easy win in Cardiff

Cardiff 0-3 Tottenham latest score: LIVE updates as Eriksen, Kane and Son fire early goals | Daily Star

Spurs have won their last five Premier League games on New Year's Day to suggest a return to winning ways is likely.

Mauricio Pochettino claimed he does not care about the outcome of the big Manchester City-Liverpool showdown after Tottenham remained firmly in the Premier League title picture with a comprehensive victory at Cardiff.

Spurs were ahead with less than three minutes gone as Cardiff made a complete mess of defending a Kieran Trippier cross and the ball bounced into the net off Kane's shin.

Pochettino added that he wouldn't let nervousness over the table prevent him from watching Thursday's clash between City and Liverpool, the league's highest-scoring sides.

Eriksen received a pass from Son, took a touch, and sent a precise shot from the edge of the area just inside the post to make it 2-0 in the 12th minute.

Tottenham bounced back from a 3-1 home loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, which was their first game since seriously entering the title conversation. "He will go with his national team, but we have players and football is about the squad and surely we will find the solution".

Bayern and Dortmund ready to battle for Callum Hudson-Odoi
Meanwhile, Chelsea in their response wants at least £22.5m for the attacker before they can allow him leave anytime soon. Watford's goalkeeper barged Hazard to the floor in the 58th minute and the Belgian made no mistake from the penalty spot.

'Man United, it was two-and-a-half minutes, today one-and-a-half minutes. If Liverpool loses to City, Spurs will be back in it. In this country all the people are going to watch the game, but I will be in a neutral position trying to enjoy the game.

Spurs are six points behind leaders Liverpool and a point better off than City, having played a game more than their two rivals.

'Us and Everton, we were the two teams who suffered the most hard fixtures in that period, ' Pochettino said after Tottenham's fourth game in 10 days. "All the planning goes out of the window", Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said.

Daniel Levy played hardball, nothing new there, and Real were forced to look elsewhere, plumping for Julen Lopetegui... and look how that turned out.

They toyed with Cardiff at times, and the third goal killed the game, with the "Ole" chants going up from the visiting fans after half an hour.

"I was pleased that we hung in there because it's easy to throw the towel down when you're 3-0 down to a team like this".
