Hanover airport is now closed to flights after a auto was reportedly driven through a gate near to a runway, German police say. The vehicle was reportedly registered in Poland and police said no risky items were found inside it.

Local media report that the airport's terminals remain open to travellers.

Takeoffs and landings were halted while police experts examined the auto.

He drove through the perimeter fence and tried to pursue an Aegean Airlines plane that had just landed from Athens, the paper added.

"Police checks of the vehicle have been completed, no risky objects were found. Hanover airport resumed operations at about 20:05 (1905 GMT)", Hanover police said.
