White House considering executive order to bar Huawei and ZTE purchases

Trump may declare national emergency barring usage of Huawei telecoms

President Donald Trump is considering an executive order in the new year to declare a national emergency that would bar USA. companies from using telecommunications equipment made by China's Huawei and ZTE, three sources familiar with the situation told Reuters.

This is despite news that Japan has effectively restricted government procurement of Huawei or ZTE gear, and that major telecom companies in the United Kingdom and France said they will not use Huawei products for certain core components of existing or 5G networks. It would invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which would empower the US President to regulate commerce in response to a national emergency threatening the country.

This week it confirmed that Huawei equipment was being removed from the heart of a communication system being developed for the United Kingdom emergency services, although it was not explicit as to why. The FCC estimates 25 percent of rural carriers in the US now have ZTE or Huawei equipment being used in their networks.

On 20 December, the U.S. indicted two Chinese men accused of hacking into computer networks of Western companies and government agencies, and accused Beijing of cyber-spying.

Huawei will release an updated version of its Huawei P Smart device in 2019, as the company aims to maintain its place as the world's second largest smartphone manufacturer.

Putin oversees test of new hypersonic super rocket
The Kremlin said it successfully hit a practice target on the Kura shooting range on Kamchatka, 6000 kilometres away. Putin said in March that the Avangard has intercontinental ranges and can fly at 20 times the speed of sound.

"We've got to look at what partners such as Australia and the U.S. are doing in order to ensure that they have the maximum security of that 5G network and we've got to recognise the fact, as has been recently exposed, that the Chinese state does sometimes act in a malign way", he added. Department of Justice issuing indictments for alleged Chinese hacking operations, and amid the controversy over the arrest of Huawei's CFO Meng Wanzhou in Canada, an order banning all USA businesses from purchasing Chinese telecom devices would be a major escalation in the ongoing U.S.

Asked about the case and whether it would add to tensions between China and Canada, Ms Hua said she did not have a grasp of the situation, but added: "The Chinese side has repeatedly made clear China's solemn and just stand".

"This in reality is undoubtedly shutting oneself off, rather than being the door to openness, progress and fairness". The Rural Wireless Association says replacing this equipment - which some fear may be a requirement of the new executive order on top of barring future purchases - could cost $800 million to $1 billion.

According to Nikkei, several other Chinese firms not directly participating in the Apple products boycott have instead offered-up "pro-Huawei" incentives for their customers. When looking for bids in 2010 for its network, it found the cost of Ericsson equipment to be almost four times the cost of Huawei.
