Qatar strongly condemns attack on Libyan foreign ministry

The three attackers were suspected to be Islamic State militants, the security source, who requested not to be named, said.

The assault on the diplomatic compound began at around 9:30am with the detonation of a auto bomb in front of the building.

Two assailants detonated their suicide vests inside the ministry and the third was killed by ministry guards, Reuters reported.

The Health Ministry confirmed the death toll and said 10 other people were wounded. "According to reports from the foreign ministry, the foreign attackers stormed into the building, started shooting, heavy gunfire was heard and the special deterrance forces took control of the situation", Abdelwahid said.

Interior Minister Fathi Bash Agha admitted during a news conference that "security chaos" reigned in Libya and was "out of our control". The country is split between rival governments, each backed by an array of local militias.

Turkey Says Nearly 300,000 Syrians Return Home After Military Operations
A senior USA official last week said Islamic State was down to the last one percent of the territory it once held. Darwish dismissed the claims as "untrue", calling them "old accusations" from the rival Syrian groups.

He said that when he took up his job in October he found "zero weapons and zero vehicles" in the ministry's warehouses.

The foreign minister called on the United Nations to lift an arms embargo on Libya that has been put in place since the 2011 uprising.

"We will work with the Libyan people to prevent terrorist groups from turning Libya into a haven or an arena for their crimes". "It is needed to guarantee security and combat terrorism", Siala told reporters. In September, the terrorist group claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on the headquarters of Libya's national oil company, describing the operation as an assault against the "economic interests of the pro-Crusader governments of the tyrants of Libya".

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which bore the hallmarks of the terror group.
