Deadly tsunami hits Indonesian islands

Earlier on Saturday evening, the BMKG had said the disaster was not a tsunami but a high tidal wave.

"The worst hit area is Pandeglang district, along the coastal area, including residential and tourist areas in the Tanjung Lesung beach, Lesung beach, Teluk Lada, Panimbang and Carita beach". The country's meteorological, climatological and geological agency is investigating the cause of the tsunami.

Footage posted by the head of disaster agency showed the aftermath of the tsunami, with flooded streets and an overturned vehicle.

Dramatic video posted online showed the tsunami hurling members of the band from the stage and slamming into the audience. Reuters was not able to immediately verify the video.

The band's drummer was missing.

In a tearful Instagram post, frontman Riefian Fajarsyah said the band's bassist and road manager had been killed. "Majority suffered from broken bones", he said, adding he feared more were missing.
