Apple to open $1B campus in Austin, Texas

WorkBusiness News Startups Apple Will Invest $1 Billion into New Texas Campus

"If we did know the answer, we couldn't tell you", he said.

The Austin office will focus on "engineering, R&D, operations, finance, sales, and customer support". It says it's on track to create 20,000 jobs in the 2023.

The major expansion announced today comes in several parts, the biggest of which is a new 133-acre campus in Austin with an investment of $1 billion.

Apple already employs more people in Austin than it does in any other city outside of its California headquarters. The news site GeekWire, citing anonymous sources, pegged Apple's presence in the building at 70,000 square feet in April.

Apple executives will hold a press conference announcing the move this morning at 10:30 with Gov. Greg Abbott and Mayor Steve Adler.

Apple also plans to add over 1,000 employees in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City each, while creating hundreds of new jobs in Pittsburgh, New York, Boulder, Boston and Portland. Expansions like this can be both a boon and a burden for cities; on one hand, thousands of high-paying new jobs and taxpayers are desirable and present new opportunities for smart investment. A brand new $1.3 billion data center in Waukee, Iowa is also about to be built.

The victor of the Copa Libertadores will claim the last remaining place at the Fifa Club World Cup in the UAE later this month. Martinez ran the ball into the empty net and River's substitutes and staff all poured onto the pitch to begin the celebrations.

After losing the title of the most valuable company of the world to Microsoft, Apple is looking to expand its network of offices.

Austin's economic development office did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the incentives.

Rumors have persisted all year that the company would establish a significant office space, Harald said, along with chatter about tech peers Amazon and Facebook setting up shop here, too. We're excited they are bringing more middle-skilled jobs to the area.

Contrasting Amazon, which cited finding and recruiting a talented workforce as a reason behind its new location decisions, Apple said talent was not confined to certain geographical locations. "It's a bummer to not get the marquee ones, but the jobs are still coming here, the companies are still coming here, there's still real growth".

Most recently, the president threatened to add tariffs to iPhones and other Apple products manufactured in China if trade negotiations with Beijing did not go the way he wanted.

Early this year, the iPhone maker said that it would invest more than $30billion in the USA over the next five years, taking advantage of President Donald Trump's tax reforms. The company, in its release, specifically mentioned that its data centers in North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada are all now being expanded.
