This is what the world searched for on Google in 2018

This why their Year in Search provides an invaluable perspective into global trends, changing social attitudes, but also silly online fads and our continuing fascination with celebrities.

Google has released its annual list of the most searched-for terms on its platform, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup topping the list.

"We searched for good news of championships, medal counts and royal weddings, and sought out bright spots throughout the year", Rogers wrote.

The way Google calculates its top trends isn't by volume of total searches but rather by the increase in interest from 2017 to 2018 in a specific topic. Football fans also managed to make it the number one news query as well.

Politics also dominated the conversation this year, with the most popular "How to" question being "How to register to vote" and both the EighthAmendment and blasphemy making an appearance in the 'What is?' categories.
