Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray Wants To Play Football And Baseball ‘If Possible’

Murray Wins Davey O'Brien Award

On Thursday, OU's Kyler Murray was named The Associated Press College Football Player of the Year.

The O'Brien Award was initially given to the top player in the Southwest before going to a quarterback-only honor in 1981. McCarron was the last Maxwell Award victor to not win the Heisman.

But, after an electrifying season that saw Murray eviscerate opposing defenses on his way to becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist, the 21-year-old might be eyeing a more exclusive path.

Murray joins Baker Mayfield (2017), Josh Heupel (2000), Jason White (2003) and Sam Bradford (2008) as previous winners from Oklahoma. Haskins, who led Ohio State to a 12-1 record and Big 10 championship, has a small following of fans who believe that he is deserving of the trophy come Saturday night.

United, who have not lifted the Premier League trophy since 2013, finished 19 points adrift of Pep Guardiola's champions last season.

After taking part in a little more than 30 minutes worth of interviews, Murray moved down to the floor of the stock exchange, eventually making his way with Tagovailoa and Haskins to the balcony where they rang the closing bell. His 4,527 yards of total offense are more than 68 of the country's other 129 teams, including six squads that are ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll.

Murray hasn't even played a top-10 defense all season, and the only top-10 D that Tua played was Georgia. Kyler Murray transferred to Oklahoma after his freshman season, sat out a season per transfer rules and then backed up Mayfield.

Brian Hartline, the current wide receivers coach for the Buckeyes who played seven seasons in the National Football League, had to teach the media on Twitter about why Haskins should be the frontrunner for the award. He went on to become one of three 4,000-yard passers in the nation and threw for 40 touchdowns.

"I'd like to do both (football and baseball) if possible", Murray told reporters Friday, via Sports Illustrated. He has also rushed for 892 yards and another 11 scores. "All the hard work with my teammates has really paid off".
