SpaceX sends Dragon to ISS but makes unplanned water landing
While the takeoff was a little rocky, if all goes to plan, those staying at the International Space Station over Christmas should receive their festive supplies on Saturday.
Company SpaceX is really surprising even those fans of space technologies that are sufficiently well versed in them - today, the talented team proved once again that the vision of Elon musk for renewable in the use of missiles is becoming more and more form. This launch is scheduled to be the 16 of 20 that SpaceX was contracted to do for NASA.
In an extraordinary bit of live footage, SpaceX's first Falcon 9 Block 5 launch of the Cargo Dragon spacecraft was topped by a spectacular partial failure of the Block 5 booster during its attempted recovery at Landing Zone-1 (LZ-1).
The feed was then cut from the webcast, but groans and cheers could be heard from the crowd at SpaceX headquarters in California as SpaceX engineer Tom Praderio, who was co-hosting the webcast, conveyed the information about the rocket's water landing. The shipment was launched on a SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket that blasted off the clear, blue sky.
Rudy Giuliani blames Twitter when his typo becomes an anti-Trump message
Because of how Twitter works, hyperlinks are automatically created when valid domains are written out in tweets. He tells CNET the whole process took him 15 minutes, and "I did it, mostly, because I could".
SpaceX on Wednesday had trouble sticking the landing with one of its reusable rockets.
The nonmoldy food bars and their corresponding mice, which will support the study of aging-related effects in space, are among the components for 38 new investigations on the Dragon spacecraft, NASA officials said. The Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Space Station Challenge is sponsoring student experiments to develop a UV-activated dental glue that could help astronauts on long-duration voyages and another testing a mist-based irrigation system for plants grown in space.
See that small space station? It's the first time that's happened since the groundbreaking launch of the company's Falcon Heavy spacecraft in February. Kononenko arrived at the station Monday along with Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques and NASA astronaut Anne McClain.
Flight controllers at the Johnson Space Center in Houston will take over at that point, operating the arm by remote control to pull the Dragon in for berthing at the Earth-facing port of the station's forward Harmony module. The others return home on December 20, leaving only three for Christmas dinner, not counting the mice and worms.
