CNN’s New York Office Evacuates Over Bomb Threat

"Update to follow", the NYPD tweeted.

President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter "FAKE NEWS - THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!" as CNN were evacuating their offices during a bomb scare on Thursday December 6, 2018.

The anonymous phone call was received by a member of staff at the Time Warner building at 25 Columbus Circle, in Manhattan, Thursday night.

"Several fire alarm bells rang inside CNN's NY newsroom, signaling an evacuation shortly after 10:30 p.m.", CNN itself reported.

All vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the CNN offices had also been blocked by police, said New York Police Detective Hubert Reyes.

Police said the building was evacuated and building security did a preliminary search.

"The caller with a Southern accent had claimed there were five bombs placed around the building", he reported.

After a sweep of the building, police did not find any explosives and employees were allowed back inside the building just after 11pm.

Chief media correspondent Brian Stelter tweeted that CNN was airing taped programming due to the threat.

At about 11:55 PM local time, the police informed CNN that the offices were cleared, and no bombs were found.

The suspect, Cesar Sayoc, of Florida, was arrested and indicted on more than 30 federal counts, including use of a weapon of mass destruction, and he faces up to life in prison if convicted.
