Lean in? That sh-t doesn't work all the time: Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama weighs in on the idea of 'leaning in': 'That s--t doesn't work' - NY Daily News

The former first lady said before Obama, then a U.S. senator from IL, announced his plans to run she thought she would play the supportive wife and console her husband when he lost.

"Like me, Meghan probably never dreamt that she'd have a life like this, and the pressure you feel-from yourself and from others-can sometimes feel like a lot", the Becoming author says in Good Housekeeping's January issue.

The writer and cultural commentator Touré was there, and tweeted that the audience "freaked out" when Obama used the curse word - and that the former first lady herself said she "forgot where she was for a moment". "When I talk to young people just starting to get married, I'm like, there are going to be huge chunks of time where you want to push him out the window".

"I nearly felt myself fall back into my own past".

Michelle goes on to say why she felt it was important to share such relationship struggles with the public, noting that she's aware the two are often viewed as the flawless couple.

Michelle Obama is opening up about life after the White House, bonding over girly matters with her daughter, Malia, and the challenges she faced in the early stages of her romance with husband Barack Obama.

Ariana Grande: Five things to know about Thank U, Next
Legally Blonde's Jennifer Coolidge - portrayed as Paulette Bonaforte - was also seen giving sound advises in the song. Jonathan Bennett , who played Aaron Samuels and Stefanie Drummond , who played Bethany Byrd, both made cameos.

Cell phone cameras were rolling as she realized what she'd said. She was talking about the concept of "leaning in", a method popularized by Facebook's chief financial officer Sheryl Sandberg through which women are supposedly able to "have it all", according to Vanity Fair.

Hearing Michelle Obama speak against the practicality of "having it all" is uniquely satisfying because she is a woman who seems to be the living embodiment of having it all.

On Monday she said universities needed to do more to encourage pupils from schools like EGA, to be more diverse.

In a 2017 interview with USA Today, four years after "Lean In" first published, Sandberg said that even though women were galvanized, she was not seeing a change in business and politics. "I'm like, 'Duh.' Marriage is hard, you know".

"As much as I wish that could happen in four years, I don't think that's a likely time period", said Sandberg.

In 2017, Sandberg admitted that the "lean in" method isn't as effective as she thought it would be: "We are stuck at less than six per cent of the Fortune 500 CEO jobs and their equivalent in nearly every country in the world. I think we too often suffer from the tyranny of low expectations".
