Macron tells Saudi prince worldwide experts needed in Khashoggi probes

Theresa May wants meeting with Saudi prince to call for 'transparent' probe into killing of Jamal Khashoggi

As the world leaders walked past the Saudi crown prince, out popped Putin who greeted him enthusiastically at the opening of the summit in Buenos Aires.

Mattis told reporters that he went over intelligence reports and read translations of tapes twice, alleging that none of it directly ties the killing to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"We have no intention to damage the Saudi royal family or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but revealing the truth about the murder with all its aspects and putting all whose responsible on a trial would benefit the Saudi Arabia as well", he said.

The G20 summit kicked off in Buenos Aires on Friday, with a plea from the host, Argentine President Mauricio Macri, for world leaders to have a "sense of urgency" and take actions "based on shared interests".

After press reports that the Central Intelligence Agency was pointing the finger directly at Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump issued a statement saying that US-Saudi relations and oil market stability were too important to rock over the scandal.

The United States will continue backing the Saudi-led war on Yemen, says Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, despite a humanitarian crisis in the impoverished country and outrage over the kingdom in the wake of Jamal Khashoggi's murder.

British Prime Minister Theresa May, speaking to Sky News before the summit, said she would press the crown prince both on Yemen and Khashoggi at the G20. Riyadh has long sought to distance the crown prince from the incident, despite increasing evidence directly linking him to it.

Putin and the Crown Prince are slated to meet during the annual gathering to talk about Khashoggi's murder and oil production.

"Don't worry", Prince Mohammed is heard saying in English to the French leader, who responds, "I do worry".

Earlier on Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Prince Mohammed sent 11 messages to his closest adviser, who reportedly oversaw the operatives who killed Khashoggi. Current US president Donald Trump said Bush had "inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service".

The murder of Khashoggi has caused widespread backlash against the Saudi regime, which had recently enjoyed an exceptionally friendly relationship with countries like the US and France.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to hold one-on-one meetings with Trump and Putin on Saturday after technical problems with the government plane caused her delayed arrival.

French President Emmanuel Macron he arrives for the G20 leaders' summit in Buenos November 30, 2018.
