Argentina judge acts on complaint against Saudi prince

In the briefing, Pompeo argued that the war in Yemen would be "a hell of a lot worse" if the United States were not involved.

An Argentine prosecutor has taken initial action on a Human Rights Watch request to prosecute Saudi Arabia's crown prince for alleged crimes against humanity.

The 63-to-37 vote came after a contentious administration briefing on the war, a discussion that also addressed Saudi involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, NBC News reported.

"Lawmakers in the appropriate committee should be able to get access to all of that", Rogers said, agreeing with host Alisyn Camerota that the administration didn't "want to hear all the evidence" out of misplaced loyalty to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen also played a role in senators' frustration with the ongoing war there, in which the U.S. is supplying Saudi Arabia with weapons and support to fight Yemeni troops. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., said he was reconsidering his position. It would be largely a symbolic move, however, as House Republican leaders have given no indication they would take up the war powers measure before the end of the year - the end of the current Congress.

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of CT, a supporter, said he was more confident about the resolution vote after the briefing.

Their listing also renders them inadmissible to Canada pursuant to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.The Canadian government also reiterated its call for a transparent and rigorous accounting of the circumstances surrounding Khashoggi's murder, dismissing Saudi Arabia's explanations of what happened as inconsistent and not credible.

Proponents argue US targeting support and refueling support (which the administration ceased recently) are hostilities. Lawmakers in Washington voted on Wednesday to advance a resolution to end U.S. support for a Saudi-led war in Yemen.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he would insist on a briefing from Haspel, even threatening to withhold his vote on key measures if that didn't happen. "I believe there is a chance to step up efforts early in December but we are not there yet", he said.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Thursday the trilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi will be held towards the end of the Trump-Abe talks.

Pompeo says US involvement in the conflict is central to the Trump administration's broader goal of containing Iranian influence in the Middle East.

"United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) sent letters to 23 USA lobbying firms requesting information on the scope of their lobbying services for the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or any Saudi government-affiliated entity", Warren's office said in a press release. His language was blunt in a Wall Street Journal article, writing that Khashoggi's murder "has heightened the Capitol Hill caterwauling and media pile-on".

Pompeo spoke to reporters after he and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told the Senate behind closed doors that weakening US-Saudi ties over the killing would hurt national security. Trump has praised a pending arms deal with the kingdom that he says will provide the US with jobs and lucrative payments, though some outside assessments say the economic benefits are exaggerated.
