The new Porsche 911: All you need to know

2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S and 4S debut: Pure refined Porsche - Autoblog

The eighth-generation 911 gets more powerful turbo-petrol engines though retains iconic design cues.

The eighth generation of the Porsche 911, now 55 years old, was finally revealed in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The 2019 911's shape is quite familiar though there are a few styling changes.

At the heart of every 911 is a rear-mounted flat-six engine. The new engine uses an improved fuel injection process along with a new turbocharger and charge air cooling process for improved efficiency.

There's also a titanium exhaust system, which is 7kg lighter than the standard unit and has a new routing that is claimed to enhance the exhaust note.

Power is fed t the wheels by an all-new eight-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.

We've already told you how much it costs in United States in our reveal article, so it's worth adding Porsche wants €120,125 for the Carrera S in Germany where the 4S begins at €127,979.

Top speed for the Carrera S is 191mph, and it's 190mph for the 4S. Apart from the front and rear sections, the entire outer skin is now fashioned from aluminium.

Nooses, protest signs found outside Mississippi Capitol
Attorney Mike Hurst of Mississippi's Southern District said the postings would be investigated as "acts of hate and intimidation". It was not immediately known who put the nooses up or why. "In fact, I was so not guilty, I was innocent".

For starters, the body of the new 992 is now wider than the outgoing 991; the front is 45mm (1.77in) wider, enabling a GT3-sized front track, while the rear body width on the Carrera S and Carrera 4S is now the same with the previous 911 GTS models, at 1,852mm (72.91in).

Porsche says its future is in electric cars but for now it is rolling out a more powerful version of its internal combustion mainstay, the sleek 911 sports auto. Top of the list has to be Porsche Wet Mode, which can identify when the road ahead is wet and automatically precondition the stability control and anti-lock brakes to suit. The wing on the right continues to house the filler flap for the front-mounted fuel tank.

Design-wise, Porsche has ensured that the new vehicle follows that "something old, something new" formula by increasing the car's width by 45 mm at the front, but ensuring it gets a compact look with smart panel shaping.

Classic elements like the comparatively upright windscreen and shape of the glasshouse are unchanged. There's also a newly developed spoiler that deploys upwards and revised OLED tail-lights that, in a move mirroring other recent new Porsche models', are now connected in the middle by a full-width LED light band. And with all the spy shots of Porsche prototypes running coming out of Europe, expect the Turbo model to follow shortly after. There are staggered wheel sizes now, with 20-inch fronts and 21-inch rears. Eventually, the 911 lineup will be filled out with as many as two dozen different variants. Porsche has also added a 10.9-inch touchscreen monitor in the centre of the dashboard for the Porsche Communication Management system as standard.

There's also a new "wet" mode that uses sensors in the wheel arches to detect water and change the driving dynamics of the auto for safer operation. Porsche says that the fuel consumption for the Carrera S is combined 8.9l/100km with combined Carbon dioxide emissions of 205g/km while the Carrera 4S gets combined fuel economy of 9.0L/100km. The brand will also introduce plug-in hybrid versions of the latest 911, though they will only arrive with the facelifts that are expected to come in 2022.

The new 911 992 goes on sale this summer, so you should probably start saving your pennies now.
