During an interview at the GeekWire Summit in October, Reggie Fils-Aimé, president and COO of Redmond-based Nintendo of America, explained how the company learned from the Wii U in developing the concept for the Switch, which can be picked up and taken on the go. Flanked by new entries in the Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon franchises, the Switch was already an improvement over the Wii U by the end of the year.

Last week, Nintendo of Europe launched a very welcome Cyber Deals 2018 sale, reducing the digital prices of numerous first-party wonders and indie delights.

Still, the current Switch sales number is nothing to scoff at. We'll have to wait for the NPD results that will be released on December 18th to have a clearer picture of who really won the biggest shopping rush of the year, even if the Switch appears to be in a solid position for now. Well, according to the latest data, the answer is a resounding yes. The Nintendo Switch became the best-selling Nintendo console in U.S. history for those five days, even surpassing the Wii, and the system also had its best-selling week ever in the US.

The Switch had its best-selling week in the United States since launching in March 2017.

Black Friday brings out shoppers looking for deals
Black Friday is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year, according to ShopperTrak, a technology company. Many Black Friday sales and deals will continue into the weekend. "I think overall spending will be decent".

And Nintendo's retro consoles have also sold well: The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system has sold over 2.5 million units to date, while the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system has landed at over 2 million units so far. Switch hardware sales grew 115 percent compared to the same period in 2017, presumably in the USA only.

In total, Nintendo generated over $250 million in the United States alone during the five day holiday period.

The SNES Classic Edition system surpassed lifetime sales of 2.5 million.
