North Carolina hiring Mack Brown as head coach
The College Football Hall of Fame head coach has one BCS national championship to his name and he was the 1996 ACC Coach of the Year when UNC went 10-2 and a top 10 finish.
Mack Brown is returning to North Carolina and will take over as the program's football coach, multiple sources close to the situation have confirmed to THI. According to the report, the decision to hire Brown will be announced on Tuesday as the 67-year-old starts putting together a coaching staff.
Brown, of course, coached North Carolina for 10 seasons in the 1980s and 1990s.
Brown returns to the college football coaching ranks after five seasons as a broadcaster with ABC/ESPN. Brown compiled a record of 69-46 at North Carolina and led the Tar Heels to six straight bowl appearances in his final six years there.
Brown coached 1998 Heisman Trophy victor Ricky Williams as well as three Maxwell Award victor (Williams, Vince Young, Colt McCoy), a Butkus Award and Thorpe Award winners.
Copa Libertadores Final Gets Postponed Again Over Team Bus Attack
On Saturday, Boca said they were in no position to play the game due to the injured parties needing medical treatment at hospital. The first leg between the two sides was delayed 24 hours itself because of a waterlogged pitch at Boca's stadium.
Later that day, rumors surfaced that the ex-Texas Longhorns head coach would replace him.
Brown parted ways with Texas following the 2013 season after the Longhorns failed to reach 10 wins in each of his final four seasons. Fedora did wear out his welcome in Chapel Hill, NC, hence the move to bring someone aboard like Brown.
He started 1-10 in each of his first two seasons, but steadily built up the program through strong recruiting, particularly with instate prospects.
His 1997 team finished 11-1 - the only loss coming to Florida State at the peak of the Seminoles' romp through that decade - and No. 6 in the final AP poll.
