WLBT in Jackson reports State Capitol police found two nooses and several signs around 7:15 a.m.

The incident comes just a day before MS runoff election between Democrat Mike Espy and Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith.

"If he invited me to a public hanging, I'd be in the front row", Hyde-Smith said in reference to one of her supporters. Mr. Trump held a festive, Christmas-themed rally for Hyde-Smith in Biloxi Monday night, and a rally earlier that day for her in Tupelo, 300 miles to the north.

The NAACP website says that between 1882 and 1968, there were 4,743 lynchings in the United States, and almost 73% of the victims were black.

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith was supposed to cruise to victory in Tuesday's MS runoff election. Cindy Hyde-Smith's campaign to return thousands in donations stemming from her "public hanging" comments.

"No one twisted your comments", he said at the debate.

U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst of Mississippi's Southern District said the postings would be investigated as "acts of hate and intimidation". Trump had praised the Republican candidate on Sunday and called her an "outstanding person".

Here’s How UCF Makes The College Football Playoff
The victor of both games will play for the national title on January 7 inside of Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The UCF Knights football team is undefeated, after beating Cincinnati in a primetime game at home Saturday, 38-13.

But on a real note, President Trump's MS rally was to encourage people to vote for the Republican incumbent against her Democrat challenger Mike Espy in the MS midterms special election.

Thad Cochran retired due to health issues.

The resulting uproar triggered a backlash from corporate donors such as Walmart Inc. and Pfizer Inc., which demanded refunds of campaign contributions, and prompted Republicans to mount a rescue operation that included two rallies by President Donald Trump on Monday in an effort to turn out GOP voters. But if black voters rise to 40 percent of the electorate and Espy wins nine out of 10, he needs less than a quarter of white votes to squeak out a victory. "I always considered that a great compliment".

Federal registration papers show Espy terminated the contract two weeks before its scheduled end.

She isn't optimistic about Espy's chances, but she's voting for him.

Espy said he refused to accept offers of plea deals.

It was not immediately known who put the nooses up or why. "In fact, I was so not guilty, I was innocent".
