Manafort reportedly visited WikiLeaks' Assange in lead-up to election

Paul Manafort Robert Mueller Donald Trump

The only specific details offered are related to the length of the alleged 2016 meeting-"about 40 minutes"-and Manafort's alleged attire-"sandy-colored chinos, a cardigan, and a light-colored shirt".

Mueller has reportedly been investigating possible contacts between WikiLeaks and a slew of Trump associates including Roger Stone and his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. Baldwin wanted to know whether the developments with Manafort meant prosecutors could prove something like the allegations revealed by the Guardian.

"I have never met Julian Assange or anyone connected to him", he said, according to the tweet.

In the lead-up to the election, WikiLeaks published rafts of emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee, as well as from John Podesta, the manager of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

His first visit to the WikiLeaks whistleblower happened about a year after Assange sought asylum at the embassy from extradition to Sweden where he was facing sex crime charges.

The report comes as Manafort faces an accusation of lying to Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, who's investigating Russian interference in the 2016 United States presidential election.

The Guardian report, which was based on unnamed sources, claimed that Manafort had met Assange in the Ecuadorean embassy in London, in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

The Guardian, which did not identify the sources for its reporting, said that Manafort met with Assange "around March 2016" - the same month that Russian hackers began their all-out effort to steal emails from the Clinton campaign.

Assange runs the WikiLeaks group, which the US intelligence community has concluded acted as an arm of Russian intelligence agencies working to help elect Trump in 2016 at the direction of that country's authoritarian leader, Vladimir Putin. "It's a joke", Giuliani said, pointing to his own months as an adviser to Trump's campaign.

Manafort and WikiLeaks both said there were no such meetings.

He then launched into an attack on Mueller's investigation and team of prosecutors, who he claimed are unduly coercing Manafort. You're not God. Mueller is not reining them in.

Manafort was found guilty in August of financial fraud but pleaded guilty and entered into a cooperation agreement with Mueller before the start of a second federal trial in September.

USA prosecutors said this week that Manafort, a lawyer and political lobbyist, had breached the terms of a plea bargain by lying "on a variety of subject matters" to the special counsel, Robert Mueller, and his team, who are investigating allegations that...
