Ivanka Trump used personal email for White House government work, report says

Ivanka Trump used her private email for government business

On Fox News' The Five, Juan Williams clashed with his co-hosts over Ivanka Trump's use of personal email, given the past scrutiny into Hillary Clinton's emails.

Her email habits, which might have violated federal records rules, are noteworthy since her father spent much of his 2016 campaign calling for the imprisonment of Hillary Clinton because she used a personal email account to conduct official business while secretary of state.

Ivanka Trump, used a private email account to send hundreds of emails to her assistants, as well as to White House aides and Cabinet officials.

Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat member of the Senate judiciary committee, called on Tuesday for an investigation of Ivanka Trump's email use, either by the office of government ethics or Congress.

Trump also repeatedly called Clinton 'Crooked Hillary, ' a term that is now being attributed to Ivanka.

Cummings is expected to be chairman of the oversight committee when his party takes the reins in the House next year.

An administration official confirmed the Post report and was aware of Ms. Trump's emails, and characterized them as containing information related mostly to logistics and personal interests.

Executive director of American Oversight Austin Evers said: "The President's family is not above the law, and there are serious questions that Congress should immediately investigate".

The Clinton server was discovered amid a congressional inquiry in 2015.

While Clinton shared "top secret" and "highly confidential" information through her private e-mail domain, potentially endangering national security, Ivanka's lawyer says this was not the case with the first daughter.

The Presidential Records Act requires that all White House communications and records be preserved for documentation.

Ivanka Trump at the White House on October 9, 2018. "The blending and mixing of emails, her private account and public account, and it raises the issue of whether there's anything improper".

The Post, citing anonymous sources, said the discovery was made by White House officials reviewing emails in response to a public records lawsuit. "There is no reasonable suggestion that she didn't know better", Evers told the Post.

In a statement yesterday, Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Ivanka Trump's lawyer and ethics counsel, Abbe Lowell, said that the first daughter's email use was different than that of Clinton, who had a private email server in the basement of her Chappaqua, New York, home. The FBI investigated her use of the server - which included sending e-mails that were classified - but declined in July 2016 to press charges.

Her frequent use of her private email address concerned aides, including one former senior official who described her as "the worst offender in the White House". "Surely this will sway voters who weren't bothered by Trump mocking a disability".
