Theresa May facing chaos after Brexit Secretary resigns

Alistair Carmichael called Mr Wilson’s comments ‘completely unacceptable and potentially dangerous

It was not immediately clear whether any ministers would resign over the deal, which May hopes will satisfy both Brexit voters and European Union supporters by ensuring close ties with the bloc after Britain leaves on March 29.

She said the government had faced a choice between "this deal, which delivers on the vote of the referendum, which brings back control of our money, laws, and borders, ends free movement, protects jobs, security, and our union, or leave with no deal or no Brexit at all".

Rees-Mogg, the head of an influential eurosceptic group of lawmakers, announced he had submitted a letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister the day after she unveiled her draft Brexit deal.

Brexiteers challenged her yesterday in the Commons, in letters - and in the mounting likelihood of a no-confidence vote.

Appearing before the House of Commons earlier Wednesday, May confronted the anger of both those who want a cleaner break with Brussels and those who think Brexit is a disaster.

One eurosceptic lawmaker in May's Conservative Party said more colleagues were either putting in letters to trigger a no confidence vote in her leadership or were increasingly minded to do so.

"All I can say is that the European Union is prepared for a final deal with the U.K.in November", he said.

"I can not reconcile the terms of the proposed deal with the promises we made to the country in our manifesto at the last election".

Rees-Mogg called for May to be replaced by a more firmly pro-Brexit politician, naming ex-Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, former Brexit Secretary David Davis and Raab as potential successors.

Esther McVey announced she was resigning as Work and Pensions Secretary as she could not defend a deal which meant the United Kingdom "handing over control to the EU".

May tried to drive home the positives from the agreement, including taking back full control of United Kingdom borders to bring an end to the free movement of people.

Mrs May went into battle after Dominic Raab resigned as the Brexit secretary over the draft deal, while a second cabinet minister and two junior government ministers also walked out.

She writes that she'll "never forgive" him for promoting the "birther" conspiracy that her husband was not born in the U.S. In " Becoming ", portions of which she read during the ABC interview, Michelle Obama wrote about Inauguration Day in 2017.

Amid the political turmoil, the pound plunged on currency markets, falling 1.7 percent to $1.27, its second biggest drop after it fell 1.73 percent against the USA dollar in September.

If Mrs May's deal is voted down by MPs, that gap widened to 64% to 36%, excluding "don't knows".

The developments threaten to derail the prime minister's Brexit strategy ahead of a crucial EU summit, which European Council President Donald Tusk confirmed would take place on November 25, "if nothing extraordinary happens". "A second referendum would be divisive but not be decisive".

Hunt replaced Johnson as foreign minister in July and has urged the Conservative membership to set aside their differences over Brexit and unite against a common foe: the EU.

Speaking before a hostile parliament after several ministers quit on Thursday, the leader of Britain's Conservative party told legislators "the choice is clear".

So far MPs in the East of England have held their tongues as they wait for more detail over the Brexit agreement.

Opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn called it a "botched deal".

"However, the hard work needs to continue", Stephen Jones, chief executive of UK Finance, said in a statement, cautioning that the finance industry would "continue planning to minimise any disruption from a no deal scenario".

UK Finance, the trade association for Britain's powerful financial sector, also said the agreement was "an important step forward in avoiding a damaging and disorderly exit".

As one of our loyal readers, we ask you to be our partner.

"As much as I am sad to see you leave, I will do everything to make this farewell the least painful possible for both for you and for us", said Tusk, who in his role as European Council President chairs the meetings of leaders.

A key question now is what will happen if the Brexit agreement does not win the required parliamentary approval. Ms.
