Erdogan: tapes of Khashoggi killing shared with Saudi, US and others

Traces of acid, chemicals found in Saudi consul’s home – source

A senior Turkish journalist has revealed bits from a secret audio tape that was allegedly recorded from the brutal assassination of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, saying the slain man begged for his life before he died at the hand of killers.

A Turkish official said last week that Saudi Arabia sent two people, a chemist and a toxicologist, to Istanbul a week after Khashoggi's October 2 killing to erase evidence, calling it a sign that top Saudi officials knew of the crime.

This led investigators to believe the dead body of the insider-turned-critic of the Riyadh regime was disposed of through the drains as liquid, the paper said.

Earlier this week, Turkish officials said Khashoggi's remains had been dissolved in acid, and none of them survived.

Turkey has evidence concerning the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi that it has not announced yet, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said. "They know", Erdogan said.

"All that we want right now is to bury him in Al-Baqi (cemetery) in Medina (Saudi Arabia) with the rest of his family", Salah said.

Erdogan gave no details of the tapes' specific content in his televised address.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also told reporters that Saudi Arabia had to "act fairly" and disclose those responsible for the October 2 killing of The Washington Post journalist to rid itself of "suspicion". The official said the head of the Federal Intelligence Service listened to the audio recording in Ankara.

Some were members of a death outfit known as the Tiger Squad, a team of assassins with close ties to MBS that is used to muzzle dissenters, MEE discovered.

"They know for certain who among the 15 is the killer or are the killers".

The Turkish leader insisted Saturday that the 15-member Saudi delegation sent to the consulate "know very well the murderer or murderers".

However, a State Department spokesperson previously denied that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo heard an audio recording or saw a transcript of the recording after he held emergency meetings in Saudi Arabia and Turkey last month.

Late last month, a Saudi prosecutor finally admitted that Khashoggi was killed in a planned attack.

USA officials said on Friday that the Trump administration is ending air refueling flights for the Saudi military campaign in Yemen and preparing sanctions against Saudis linked to the killing.

They also agreed that the matter should not be allowed to cause further destabilisation in the Middle East and that it could create an opportunity to find a political resolution to the war in Yemen, according to the official.
