Saudi Arabia to pay compensation to Khashoggi family, fiancee: Turkish official

Brother Of Saudi Billionaire Prince Freed From Detention After A Year

Turkey said last week that Khashoggi, a US -based journalist who had written columns for The Washington Post that were critical of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was strangled as soon as he entered the consulate, his body dismembered and then destroyed, possibly dissolved in acid.

More than a week after Saudi agents killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, Saudi Arabia sent an expert team to clean up evidence of the crime, under the guise of helping with the investigation, a senior Turkish official said Monday - the latest twist in a case that has caused an worldwide uproar.

"The fact that a clean-up team was dispatched from Saudi Arabia nine days after the murder suggests that Khashoggi's slaying was within the knowledge of top Saudi officials", the official said.

The Saudi officials tried to rip out a camera inside the Istanbul consulate on October 2, the day Khashoggi disappeared, and days later tampered with cameras at a police security booth in the building, Al-Jazeera reported, citing Turkish media.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS, launched seven strategic projects in renewable energy, atomic energy, water desalination, genetic medicine and the aircraft industry during his visit to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology on Monday.

More than a month after Khashoggi was killed inside the mission on October 2, Turkey has still yet to recover the remains amid claims that his body was dissolved in acid.

"This 15-man team did not come to Turkey on their own, they came on orders".

A Turkish source told Al-Jazeera on Tuesday that the Saudis would be paying a diya - a financial sum paid under Islamic law in compensation for murder or bodily harm - to Khashoggi's sons and his fiancee, Hatice Cengiz. Erdogan also has demanded that the Saudi government reveal the location of Khashoggi's body. "This will happen" said Salah, who sat for the interview with his brother, Abdullah Khashoggi, 33.

"I really hope that whatever happened wasn't painful for him, or it was quick".

They were part of the team that arrived on Oct. 11, and they were at the consulate daily from Oct. 12 to Oct. 17.

Aiban gave no details on the status or whereabouts of the 18 Saudi nationals detained in connection with the case and repeatedly declined to answer journalists' questions about them, saying: "The case is still under investigation, as you know.I think my statement was very clear". The kingdom's public prosecutor has since called the killing premeditated, but has not said who planned or approved it.
