Most Britons back staying in European Union

Tracey Crouch resigned as sports minister over the delay in implementing changes to the law on Fixed-odds betting terminals

The British government's chief legal adviser has been quietly added as a 12th member of the Cabinet sub-committee created to oversee London's Brexit negotiations with Brussels after ministers insisted they would not sign off on a deal without his advice.

Theresa May will be able to persuade her Cabinet to support her preferred Brexit deal - but only after more of her ministers resign, according to a government source.

Mrs May has reportedly secured concessions from the European Union to avoid a hard border in Ireland, the Sunday Times reports.

Ireland is willing to examine ways in which a "backstop" to keep the Irish border open after Brexit could be reviewed so long as it does not permit Britain to unilaterally walk away from it, Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Monday.

Some 43% said they would support a second referendum that was a binary choice between a deal and staying in, with 37% opposing a vote on those terms.

Dominic Raab, the UK's Brexit secretary, has privately demanded the right of the United Kingdom to quit the EU's Irish backstop after just three months.

European Union diplomats told Reuters on Friday they doubted a deal could be completed in time for a tentatively scheduled summit on Nov 17-18, but that it could perhaps come a week later.

Floyd Mayweather to fight Japanese kickboxer on New Year's Eve
The 41-year-old has signed a deal with Rizin Fighting Federation to fight in Saitama, Japan on December 31. Mayweather is 50-0 in his boxing career but has never fought professionally under MMA rules.

The debate also featured Justice Secretary David Gauke, shadow trade secretary Barry Gardiner and the Green Party's Caroline Lucas on behalf of The People's Vote.

The report by The Sunday Times (via Sky News) revealed that preparations for this deals are "far more advanced than previously disclosed", eventually leading to a document of around 50 pages being published.

But Downing Street has reportedly dismissed the report as "speculation".

A spokesperson said: "The prime minister has been clear that we are making good progress on the future relationship and 95pc of the Withdrawal Agreement is now settled and negotiations are ongoing".

"I am extremely confident we will reach an imminent deal", Glen told a financial services conference in London.

"This is the backstop", he added, saying the United Kingdom had agreed that it would apply "unless and until" a close future relationship eliminated any need for Border infrastructure and checks.

"I very much hope and I very much expect that the Taoiseach, the Government and the (Michel) Barnier team will remain on track, I fully expect that the promises and commitments freely made last December to protect Ireland to be honoured, and it is the job of the Taoiseach to ensure that it is so".
