Businessman Mike Braun (R) has defeated Sen.

Republican candidate Mike Braun has successfully unseated incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly in IN; turning a blue seat red after a contentious election battle.

Several news organizations called the race in Braun's favor with about 50% of precincts reporting in, including CBS News, ABC News and NBC News. Given that this contested seat holds major ramifications for who controls a majority in the Senate after November, both parties brought in their biggest names, with former President Barack Obama stumping for Donnelly last weekend and Trump visiting the state twice for Braun just before the election.

Obama calls troop deployment a 'political stunt' at Florida rally
The big victor : You guessed it, the Democrat on the ticket, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum , who managed to secure a victory. The graphic, aired during " All In ", with openly liberal host Chris Hayes, shows Gillum receiving about 45,000 more votes.

Donnelly was considered one of the most vulnerable seats in the country. In ads in the race's closing weeks, he touted his support for Trump's proposed border wall with Mexico, slammed the "radical left", and quoted both Trump and Ronald Reagan. Donnelly is also pro-life, though some conservative pro-life groups doubt his reliability on the issue and that stance alone was not enough to help him keep his seat.

Braun says he supports "traditional marriage" and is "100% pro-life".

Donnelly stuck in the race until the very end to the surprise of Republicans who thought he'd only won in 2012 due to their own flawed candidate.
