Secretary of State Pompeo defends waivers to Iran sanctions

Open to new deal with Iran: Trump

In response, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a speech broadcast on state TV that Iran would break the sanctions and continue to sell oil.

The US will reimpose on Monday more sanctions lifted under a 2015 nuclear pact world powers struck with Iran.

They will hit oil exports, shipping and banks, and make it hard to do business with the oil-rich nation.

Rouhani said in a the meeting on Monday: "I announce that we will proudly bypass your illegal, unjust sanctions because it's against global regulations".

Among events held on the embassy anniversary was a cartoon exhibit called "Donald Salman" - a reference to the close ties between the US President and King Salman, ruler of Iran's arch-rival for regional predominance, Saudi Arabia. But there are doubts how successful this will be.

The measures, described by Washington as "the toughest sanctions ever", were reimposed on Monday after President Donald Trump controversially decided in May to abandon the nuclear deal with Tehran.

The accord provided Iran with billions of dollars in relief from worldwide sanctions in exchange for sweeping curbs on and inspections of its nuclear program.

In another interview to CBS News, Pompeo said the European companies will not be permitted to do business with both the United States and with Iran.

The president says his "maximum pressure" strategy is working. "They wanted to take over the whole Middle East. Right now they well-supplied want to survive".

Player ratings: AFC Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United
As we are told every single week during commentary Cook was the captain of the England U20 team that won the World Cup. The Portuguese had hoped his decision to drop Lukaku would serve as a wake-up call for the player.

What could the impact be?

"We must resist and win", he said.

More than 700 individuals, entities, vessels and aircraft will be put on the sanctions list, including major banks, oil exporters and shipping companies.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is defending the Trump administration's reimposition of sanctions against Iran from conservative critics who argue more should be done to isolate the country.

As many countries that previously stopped buying oil from Iran are now being given permissions by the White House in the form of waivers to purchase Tehran's petro output, the Middle Eastern nation's exports are only set to rise, according to Bloomberg.

While the commemoration annually sees American flags burned and cries of "Death to America" rise up, it also has a carnival-like atmosphere for the students and others taking part. "Iran is a much different country since I terminated that deal". But "Iran has weathered multiple rounds of sanctions before".

"Today the enemy (the United States) is targeting our economy. the main target of sanctions is our people", Rouhani said. He did not name those countries, but was likely referring to China, France, Russia and Britain, which along with Germany made up the world powers involved in the 2015 nuclear deal.

What has the reaction been in Iran? "The main objective from the United States side is to force Iran to accept most - if not all - of its 12 conditions and demands".

The nationwide rallies to mark the 1979 takeover of USA embassy in Tehran began on Sunday morning under the motto of "Hayhat Minna al-Dhilla (no to humiliation!)".
