The student who was shot on October 29 at Butler High School in North Carolina died from the gunshot wound, officials said.

The student was shot by a fellow student during a fight in a crowded school hallway Monday and died at a hospital, officials said.

The shooting occurred at Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina, and is said to be an isolated incident. Police are now interviewing students who may have witnessed the shooting. Investigators have the weapon used. Maybe we didn't intervene early enough in a bullying situation. "There were many kids in the hallways when this took place", he said. The suspected shooter was also not identified.

One student said that he was in the cafeteria eating breakfast when he witnessed the fight that led to the shooting.

"I'm right there, I hear pop, pop, pop, and everyone's running, people are trampling over each other".

Anxious parents and carers rushed to the school after news of the shooting broke, with parents initially told they could come to pick up their kids from 8:50am EDT. He said the system was reviewing its security procedures. The school had been placed in lockdown, but that was later lifted as students streamed out, many crying and hugging parents.

Yvonne Gloston, a parent of a CMS high schooler, said her child does not go to Butler, but that she had friends and family with children at the high school and traveled to the school site after the shooting. Classes will proceed on campus today for students remaining on campus.

Dozens of parents gathered outside of the school of about 2,000 students.
